is the evo 9 turbo still considered a 16g? Or more towards an 18g?

still 16g, i posted that picture directly from the bmi video a long time ago...

bascially the diffuser is bigger, notice the small hole at the top of the snails. the diffuser being bigger makes the whole comp cover bigger. the comp blade is bigger but not so much in the inlet area but more to fill the diffuser's increased radius.

If you're referring to this picture:

Then isn't that just the compresser vs the impeller?

Edit: nevermind - lol

the rs turbo is made of all kinds of exotic materials... there were failures in the first few batches but apparently that has been remedied.

they're all titanium magneum shaft and turbine over in japan.

We get the cheapo gt models without all the good stuff on turbo.

turbo on 9 is same as on 8, but with 10.5 hotside (03`04' has 9.8 hotside)

info is old news. Translation is available on evolution se.com (without the space) at the engine info as a stickie. The transmission info's there too.

The 06 IX turbo on the USDM cars also has the larger compressor housing in addition to the 10.5 hotside. This has been discussed many times on Evom.

I think the difference on the JDM is the composition of the internals. Not sure about the compressor wheel? Anyone know? I might try to find one in Japan if they are not too expensive...

no... the non rs cars in japan have our turbo, the only evos that get mag wheels are the rs.
