Evo IX Clutch Break In

Hey guys just bought a black evo 9 two days ago. Im glad to join the evo family. Anyway, I just had a quick question. About how many miles are you suppost to drive / shift carefully without going above say 4000rpms before the clutch is broken in? Thanks.

What ever the manual says. Everyone is going to tell you to search, or give you mixed suggestions. The breakin time stated in the manual is specific to Evo's, and is there mainly for the clutch.

WELCOME!! I redlined mine once a day after I got my EVO IX.. LOL Do some search.. that's what I did.. lot of people say once they got it they drove it like stolen.. some people waited... some people by the way say that they change their oil at 500, 1000, or 1500 mileage...

Edit: Like what mentioned above.. I'd follow whatever the manual says if you can resist haha

Read the manual. You will get so many opinions, but i would take the opinion of the people who offer the warranty

Well, the break-in procedure is mainly for the engine, but also for the clutch, brakes, and suspension. The rpms you rev to will not affect the clutch break-in. In other words, whether you go to 3k or 5k rpm, that won't be what breaks the clutch in. You just don't want to launch the car or go around powershifting.

Btw, per the manual, only keep it below 5k rpm (not 4k rpm), and be sure to do plenty of boosting up until that 5k point.

+1

I kept it under 5k rpm until 1000miles.

My '03 EVO... drove it like I stole it from the first time I got in it, everyday until I traded it in on the IX. It had 35,000 on the clock, was making over 380whp (DynoDynamics) and had no problems on the stock clutch. Other folks have had their clutch last months.

Whats the purpose of doing plenty of boosting up until 5k to break it in?
I just got my IX a few days ago and ive been babying it, hardly any boosting, and keeping it @ 4k rpms or under.
