I'm just curious to know if anyone has ever been caught by the police for lacking a catalytic converter. High flow cat or test pipe. What was you penalty? Did anyone get away with a slap on the wrist?

I'm just curious to know what has happened to others. As long as I'm careful and not doing something stupid, I'll be cool. I might swap the cat back in soon though.

If you live in CA.. Do NOT risk it.. Get a high-flow 50-state legal cat... Yo won't lose much HP at all if you're not heavily modified(appx. 5whp) and you will avoid a $2,500-25,000 Fine. (I believe that's what it is, not 100% sure though)... Go to the EPA website and do a search for catalytic convertor.

Yeah but in cali you have to be within the decibel levels. So just because you are obeying the law doesnt mean you wont get pulled over.

Try puling that down here in san diego. You will be the first car they pull over and have you pop your hood. Then they will issue you a fix it ticket due to smog violations.

I guess it depends on the area in which you reside.

There are 50 state legal high flow cats? I thought replacement of the catalytic converter is illegal.

It is. If they can PROVE you replaced it on a whim. We swap them all the time. As long as you "think" you cat was dmaaged, no worries!

Yeah your welcome. I have learned that a argument gets us nowhere but a mature diatribe does.

Btw, technically any tampering with the cat is illegal in the state of cali. Unless the cat itslef has carb numbers it is ilegal.

it is also illegal to replace a working cat even if it is with another cat. but then again not like they really know what our cat is supposed to look like and they probably wont check for a carb number when issuing a ticket. as long as you have a cat when they look under the car you should be ok

I bought a Magnaflow for my talon and passed CT emmissions with it. ...And I believe CT i second worst, right behind Cali.
