If you are stock, take it into the dealer. The clutch is covered until 12,000 miles. Good luck!

Thanks...I've heard this as well. I already made the appointment for them to look at the clutch. I'm just wondering why the RPMS stayed/stuck at 7000rpms for a bit. I should have clutched in and waited for them to drop, but it was too late I already shifted to second...

Your clutch slipped because it wasn't warmed up.
I bet if you tried to launch again right after that, it would have worked perfect.

In all the ten EVO VIIIs that came to Brazil the original clutch was changed right off the
dealer to a stronger clutch. I think that is the weakest part of the car. I got myself
an Exedy Hyper Twin and so far, so good ... have done several launches no problem.

Same thing happened to me the other night, slipped and car didn't pull, just sat there burning the clutch.

I have 1,500 miles. I never had an issue with my 2004. It still pulls fine I'm just afraid to launch it now.........

Btw- I have a IX now

A few days ago I was simply cruising down PCH and noticed a slight clutch smell after taking off from a light. It wasn't a launch... just regular driving. Since then its shuddered a tiny bit pretty much every time i start off from a dead stop while driving slow. I've never launched the car once and the clutch has only 2800 miles on it.

South Coast Mitsu said my flywheel is warped and they wont cover it. They also offered an aftermarket clutch which they sell. Cost including labor = $2k.

I then called and talked with Huntington Beach Mitsu. They said slight shuddering is normal on Evo's but if things get worse, they will cover it under warranty.

I don't know who to believe. I don't want to get stuck paying for a $1k dealer tear down after they decide to tell me they wont cover it even though i've been super easy on this car from the minute i drove it off the lot.

I may just drive it and if things get worse, i'll go aftermarket. Perhaps a centerforce dual friction. I can get their products for wholesale, same goes for a few brands of flywheels. I also have hookups with installers.

Damn sorry to hear that. My stock clutch works like a champ. However, I am thinking of getting the single disc exedy. I hear nothing but great things from that clutch.

Does anyone have a link to a thread or a website that teaches proper launching techniques??

Also, it would be great if there was any material on how to get a good, light launch without doing serious damage to your clutch.

ANything???

i think everyone on here knows that the stock clutch is very soft so it burns out really easily. Most ppl that doesn't have that much to spend on the exedy twin plate would usually buy the ACT for around $700 at most online sites, but I think ebay sales them for around $500. But I've seen some drivers go 30K on stock clutch so far.
