South Coast Mitsu said my flywheel is warped and they wont cover it. They also offered an aftermarket clutch which they sell. Cost including labor = $2k.
I then called and talked with Huntington Beach Mitsu. They said slight shuddering is normal on Evo's but if things get worse, they will cover it under warranty.
I don't know who to believe. I don't want to get stuck paying for a $1k dealer tear down after they decide to tell me they wont cover it even though i've been super easy on this car from the minute i drove it off the lot.
I may just drive it and if things get worse, i'll go aftermarket. Perhaps a centerforce dual friction. I can get their products for wholesale, same goes for a few brands of flywheels. I also have hookups with installers.

I smoked my stock clutch 3 or 4 times trying to learn how to launch the damn thing. The clutch got a little chattery after about 15K miles on it. Was inspected by AMS at 30K miles, because they didn't believe that the stock clutch wasn't on its last gasp ... turned out it was still fine. Then, at 33K, the throwout bearing popped out ... bye bye clutch.
dakind, if I were you (and I'm assuming this is not your first stick shift car), I'd do the following things (helped in my '03):
- get a SS clutch line and remove the clutch restrictor pill (my dealer actually did this for me)
- adjust your clutch pedal to where it engages about 3" off the floorboard (my dealer fubared this one, and I fixed it myself. Fairly easy on the Evo)
I always felt that the stock setup (rubber line with restrictor pill) felt vague. Made for nice granny shifting, but not much else.

BTW, once you fry the clutch (not destroyed, but fried), it may take awhile for the smell to go away. I fried my ACT, and for about 2 weeks it would smell like burnt clutch once in awhile.
The stock Evo clutch is a great unit for a stock or lightly modded car. When I saw the stock clutch for the first time I was actually surprised as I was expecting a lot less. When you're launching don't slip the clutch, just drop it. The stocker is metal, not carbon like an Exidy. Heat will not change the friction co-efficient significantly, whereas a carbon clutch can be optimized to have a smooth co-efficient when cold (operates easily) and have increased torque transfer (grabs hard) when hot. And when you're driving around town with the stocker let the clutch out before you give it throttle. I see a lot of drivers adding throttle while the clutch is still part way in and this just wears the clutch down needlessly.
