any one else having issues with their hood chipping?
i too am in the million paint chip hood club. if i hit a bug at a speed greater than 10mph, it takes paint with it as it skims off of the windshield. it actually looks like someone gave it a 10 second shot with a sandblaster. i too try to stay at least 7 car lengths back on the highway but it does not matter at all.
Not necessarily my friend. I have a 2003 Focus SVT which was dropped about 1.5 inches and it sits about the same height as a stock Evo. It has 81000 miles, and I tailgate semis back and forth to work every day on I-80 going 75 to 80 miles an hour. I have about 4 chips on the entire car. Just waxed it this last weekend.
On the other hand, our 2006 IX MR, red, has about 6k miles on it, and my wife drives it around 35 to 40 mph back and forth to work every day on a lightly travelled paved road. The hood has about 50 chips on it already. It's embarassing. I've never seen anything like it. It seems to affect the aluminum panels more than anything. AL takes a different process to paint properly, but you would think they would have it figured out by now. Our 2003 red Evo had the exact same problem, but I never took it in because the hood was switched with another Evo and didn't have the right VIN on it. If Mitsu doesn't do something about it, I'll go after them one way or another. I certainly didn't pay $35k for this. It even has a couple chips on the front fenders.
Well ford is not exactly known as the model in quality, and my focus is a million times better. I won't get used to it, if this is a hint of things to come, that car will be gone. I love it, but what a joke.

My 03 Accord had so many paintchips on the front end to sell it I had to get a new front bumper. I mean it looked like I drove on dirt roads for 100k miles. Ridiculous!
