Get a evo!!! maybe not a MR, if you are concerned about money the MR isnt for you. price for what you get the MR isnt worth it. the regular model will come with all the stuff you could want or need. you dont need the 6 speed.

Get a evo just get the regular one, i dont reccomend an RS tho, i would want a sun roof, and a radio for cruising... you cant spend every minute at the track !

Buy a used straight 8....with 10k down your payment would be like 200 bucks. Plenty of money left to mod.

You'll be more happy.

I am not trying to be a dick , but if you have to ask other people if you can afford it you probably can't. Like a few other people I am also in the military, Army SGT, I took the route that 4TUN8 said above. I also found a killer deal, thanks again SANDM. I also waited, ever so patiently , about two years for that killer deal. It was kinda easy for me to wait because I have been in Korea for the last 3 frickin' years. Invest your money in something other than a car like a TSP, IRA, mutual fund, etc. You can do a short term 5yr plan, and it will definitely pay off more than the Evo. This is also very easy for me to say now that I have what I have wanted for the last 6 years. Continue the great work you do. Oh, and 10,000 would build a pretty nice DSM. my .02

Yeah if you want an evo that bad I wouldnt go with the 9. I would buy a good 8. Also I wouldnt go MR just to save you some money here and there. Also your payments would be substantially alot less. I would hit up SC mitsu and see what they can do for you. I know there brand new 9's are going for 27500 before ttl. With a 10k down payment you would be loaning out about 20k and that makes your monthlies around 333 thats if you went with the 5yr loan. They have a 7yr loan program which would then bring your monthlies down to 238. I am assuming 1500 is your base pay. I am sure you also make other extra pay. But you figure 300 for the car 300 for insurance and 200 for gas you have half your checkleft a month just incase.

IMHO I think you can do it. Just be wise on what you get and where you go.

And thanks for serving.

Save your money. I drove around in beaters most of my life and it was one of the smartest things I ever did. I had friends with the car bug who wasted enough money to buy a rental property over the years. All the fancy cars they had are now in the junk yard and they have nothing to show for it. Save your money and buy a rental property. If there's one thing nicer than an Evo it's having enough money in the bank to walk away from your job. I have no regrets that I didn't buy a hot car when I was younger.

0311 in the house.

Devil Dog.....save your money. Buying a car while in the service is a burden. But see if you can purchase the car through AAFES. I know alot of the Army and Air farce guys get HUGE discounts on cars when purchased using that program.

You should see some of the cars that these Air Farce guys are driving, and I dont mean the occifers or pilots.

If you can afford it and still put some money in the bank, then I say hey go for it. I made the mistake of buying a new Camaro SS when I was in the service and it strapped me royaly.

My best advice is try buying a used one

Yes you can afford it, I know people see $1,500 and don't think that is a lot, but Military pay is different than civillian pay. Do you still live on base, access to free food, free medical, and free etc (also access to friendly military banks with low interest). I'm not sure how long you've been in the military but your pay will raise substantially in the future as you rise in rank. You should have no problem affording an EVO as long as you do not have many other bills.

Good call 3000ways.

Hey WTF with the Air Farce ???

I'm in the AF and i'm looking hard at getting an Evo this summer. I live off base, so i get a housing allowance and i work a second job ( 30 - 35 hours / week ) pulling in about 600 / mo. I am looking to get promoted this July so my pay will go up even more. It's tough working the 70+ hour week but it helps a lot. I don't have a lot of bills and i don't go out that much so i would be able to swing it, i think. My insurance would go up only $9 / mo. so take that into account too.

If you can afford it, do it. Just look at your long term budget and you'll be okay.

IMHO military personel really are the people who can afford it over civilians because they have ultimate job security. Civilians could lose their job at a moments whim. So I think if you will be able to enjoy the car then go for it. You only live once. Especially being a ground pounder. God forbid you could die tomorrow and for what? You coulda enjoyed life now for what it is. Thats how I think.

Go out and buy the car!

Start enjoying life and that scheduled check every 2weeks. I mean if you dont buy the evo you will prolly waiste it on other junk.

You got nothign to worry about. Your food, medical, and COLA is payed for. You dont have to worry about any of your necessities like the civies do. All that money you earn is play money.

Actually.....if you get out and go to work for the government as a DOD civilian employee the job security is quite good. It takes ALOT of paper work and almost an act of congress to fire a someone working Civil Service.

True but I consider those jobs to be government jobs. Even the merchant marines IMO are gov jobs becasue those jobs you are working for the gov. So really the gov is your employer technically.

^^ that's true once you have completed the one year of probation. I am taking the GS route once I exit the Army. <fastCOevo> I am not sure what kind of cars those AF guys are driving, but I do not think they are Mitsubishis. Last time I checked Mitsubishi doesn't have any deals with the military, well maybe in Japan. Over here, in Korea, the local dealers have all sorts of "Military Deals" that are quite good i.e. Volvo, Lexus. Try to get to Okinawa, it is mostly Marines, you will be able to get a Skyline for about 5,000. I am not talking a beater either. I can actually give people info about cars that are for sale in Japan if any of you want. Importing will be the tough part, but if you can convince the military person that owns it to bring it back then it's easy easy. Then just buy it when they get back.

Im an E-3 about to be E-4 next month in the USAF not married and living in the dorms. I bought my 03 for 24K with 25K miles and i had a trade in and 6K to put down on it. i only owe 13-14K on it now my insurance is almost more than my car payment (im only 20).

I agree with the other guys. I wouldnt buy a brand new 06. i think i would go the route of buying a slightly used 05. This will be your best bet.

If you buy a used car with your 10K downpayment i think you will be very happy with your choice.

Good luck

I would suggest waiting till you get out of the military to buy a new car. More than likely you'll probably draw a lot of attention to yourself once you are seen driving a new car. You don't want to draw attention from your chain of command, and your coworkers. This is what I went trough. I had some money saved up, and was about to reenlist. Then went ahead and got a new car, before I knew it my whole chain of command thought I was doing drugs because they couldn't explain where I was "getting all this money from". So you figure your a single guy that doesn't have that many bills so you want a new car, but people don't see it that way. A bunch of jerks with heavier rank on their collars made it their business to make my life impossible. I ended up getting an administrative discharge and had my career ruined. Now I'm strapped with a car that I can't afford anymore. My point is that there's no security in the military. You have to worry about not getting any NJP'S, because if you loose rank **** just rolls down hill. I'm not saying that what happened to me will happen to you, I'm just trying to help you out. Either make E5 as quickly as possible or just keep saving and buy the car after you get out.
