WOW, a lot of information guys, yea, I have taken everyone's opinion into consideration and I do live on base so basically everything is being payed for me, food, medical, education, blah blah, mainly my money goes towards me going out and bills such as cell phone and such and that is not even much due to military discounts. But I yet still have to decide to get one in June. A used 08 sounds nice, but you know I hate that used feeling when I buy a car especially an Evo. Don't know what the hell the owner did to it. And as school, I went to virginia for Intel school. Maybe I'll wait till I get promoted and get more pay, blah..I'll keep you guys updated on my decision =).

Should I buy or not? I think this question really has more to do with your personal philosophy on wealth.

When you buy a car, the second you own it you lose money on it. Not only does the car depreciate, but you're paying interest on the money you borrowed to buy the car. Then you need to pay taxes/registration/insurance/fuel etc.

So the question comes down to will you enjoy the car so much that it is worth that cost?

On the other hand, if you were to save your money and invest it into something simple like a low risk mutual fund or even a simple savings account in a credit union, you'd be making money on top of the money you already have.

Are you currently carrying any debt? If so, then you'd be taking out more debt and paying all that interest which is just like flushing money down a toilet.

Ohh and I got my car at Huntington Beach Mitsu. Talk to Tom. Easiest car transaction I've ever had, did it mostly over the phone.

You don't want to draw attention from your chain of command, and your coworkers. This is what I went trough. I had some money saved up, and was about to reenlist. Then went ahead and got a new car, before I knew it my whole chain of command thought I was doing drugs because they couldn't explain where I was "getting all this money from". So you figure your a single guy that doesn't have that many bills so you want a new car, but people don't see it that way. A bunch of jerks with heavier rank on their collars made it their business to make my life impossible. I ended up getting an administrative discharge and had my career ruined. Now I'm strapped with a car that I can't afford anymore. My point is that there's no security in the military. You have to worry about not getting any NJP'S, because if you loose rank **** just rolls down hill. I'm not saying that what happened to me will happen to you, I'm just trying to help you out. Either make E5 as quickly as possible or just keep saving and buy the car after you get out.
This depends on alot of factors. Mainly it depends on your LPO's and particular command you are in. If they want to be a$$holes then no one can stop that. Its not your fault. I would have broken the chain of command and went to the OIC because they are obviously not acting in concordance to the military conduct code. Under these precepts you will be able to break the chain of command legally and justfully. If the OIC doesn't help then you go higher and higher till this problem gets resolved. Getting out and quitting should be no option in this case because what did you just do? You quit and did nothing about it and now the next young kid who wants to get something nice will go through the same thing you did and it will never end.

You see this is the problem with society today. People quit to easily. "All evil has to do to prevail is for good men to do nothing." I don't care if you bought a porsche or a ferrari they have no right to make it their business. I have seen e3-e5's come back from Iraq and buy 6-700thousand dollar homes here in san diego. And your command has the audacity to reem you because you bought a mere 30thousand dollar car? This does not make sense. I mean I would have taken this so far and would have ripped them a new a$$hole for being idiots.

I am sorry that this happened to you. And I hope that this occurance doesnt happen again. Dont ever again let someone take away your rights like that. I mean you were in a institution that fights for freedom and justice and for them to do that to you is exactly what that institution preaches against. You see where you could have won so easily?

Just get a new evo 9 from south coast. The cost will be around 30grand assuming you dont get gap ins and low jack. 10grand down and your payments will be around 350-400depending on the lenght of the loan. And your home free with a new evo. I mean 1500 for base pay with a 400dollar car payment is very easily done.

Where in cali do you reside? I am assuming you are in the san diego area cause you are a marine. Are you at Miramar? CAMP Pendleton? MCRD? I love you jarheads.

I love the tenacity and the patriotism you guys portray. I miss that in the AF.

Might consider buying used, you wont lose as much money in depreciation. I pay about 260 a month now I had 13,000 down.

dont be that PFC that tries to live way outside your means, buy a 99 civic and have it paid off, build your credit and gain some rank, then buy an evo.

Considering you bumped a thread that's almost 4 years old, he's probably out of the military now. Great advice, a whole enlistment late.
