Question hand held programer?

is there a hand held programer for evo's like the diablo programer for the 03-04 cobras where you can flash the computer with a custom tune and reflash it to stock if needed?

Like hey said. Nothing yet. That is one thing I deff admire about Ford though... I like the whole SCT thing they have going and like you said the Diablo Programmer is nice.

That doesn't change your fuel maps unless you have a Utec.

I agree, there is nothing "YET" but since the ECU has been successfully decrypted and decoded, and a particular company has already created a programming cable capable of sucessfully reading and writing the ECU, it will only be a matter of time before a standalone programmer becomes available..

Though I still would recommend against blind programming and if you want it done right, have it tuned by a pro for your mods, or if you do it yourself, use the tools (either a flash tool that may become available soon, or a piggyback or whatnot) to do it right and learn how to do the job..

There are just so many variations in upgrades and bolt-ons, that its unwise to just reflash the ECU without accomodating them, and a handheld programmer can only accomodate a limited number of variations without needing to have more maps uploaded into it, or the ability to adjust alot more than your typical flash programmer might make.

The best of both worlds would be a handheld tool to flash maps stored in it, that you program yourself (or your tuner) with a laptop, then you can conveniently change maps when needed.

with the diablo you can download customized tunes into it from your computer. if a company would make that for the evo they would make alot of $$. I am getting my ix on monday and want to mod it but am worried about voiding the warranty when i do a flash.

I've been curious about this as well. For all the technical achievements of the Evo tuner community, I find it hard to believe nobody is doing this yet. I really don't want to have to mail in my ECU for re-flashing. I've got the X-Calibrator II on my SVT Focus, and the thing works awesome. I'm just waiting until one of the Evo tuner companies comes out with something similar. Then, I will buy one without hesitation.

If we had something similar to dsmlink (no piggyback compares)....it would be gold I tell ya, GOLD! but that is years away if ever unless another company steps up to the plate! It would take a lot of the gouging out of our market as far as ecu tuning is concerned....

Hmm I guess I started a new thread too early but a buddy of mine told me accessport is making one for the evo's.

I'm trying to find a reliable source but if they do thats what I'm getting.

That is exactly what is on the way from one tune I know of. Its very similar to the hand held programmer my buddy has for his WRX where he stops the car, plugs it in, and flashes one of the many maps he has programmed into it by his tuner after some dyno sessions.
