i put my cams in myself, I am a mechanic at a dealership in my city. the labor time says it should take 4.9 hours. it took me 7hours total that is not counting the time it took to get the special tool you do need!!! DONT USE 8MM All-THREAD!!!. there is a reason there is a special tool!!!! use it. if you know a MAC Tools guy in your town go to him order the tool its 21.00. if you dont know a MAC tools guy go to a dealership and ask when the MAC tools guy comes around. they come once a week. but back to the subject... I would not suggest install them yourself if you had never done camshafts before. the reason is, if you do everything exactly perfect then it is great, but if you mess one thing up, (example get one tooth off on the timing belt, drop a small nut in your oil passage, dont torque your cam bearing caps correctly, so on and so on) then you can do some serious damage. BUT no matter what you do, do it right by going to www.buschurracing.com or call them Monday thru Friday and get the ARP head studs. They cost $200.00 but they are worth it because 1. you got the valve cover already off and 2. they are alot stronger than the factory head studs so there is no need to worry about have to weak of head studs.

If you are positively sure you want to do them yourself or even if you are going to have a shop do them, i would suggest going here http://www.evomoto.com/tech_info.php...3_6&tech_id=18 print out the instructions and read them over or give them to the shop that is doing them cuz there is little trick and helpful hints in there that i would have never caught until it was to late. like the timing is suppose to be set to 3 degrees BTDC.

Hope that helps

While I agree with everything you said. Please tell me you didnt pay $200 for head studs. You can get them for half that.

no i didnt pay 200.00 for the head studs. i only ended up paying i think 100.00 from buschur racing. they say oin their website that they are 200.00 but they are either 100.00 or 120.00. i wasnt trying to state the actual price for the head studs them self i was including the .5 hours it takes to install them, that a shop would probably charge an extra 40.00 to 60.00 to install them. jsut make sure you torue them to 90 FT-LBS... alot of people are going with the 75 FT-LBS that the mitsubishi handbook says but I would strongly Suggent that you do them to 90 FT-LBS, but if you really dont feel safe doing that much I would go no less then 85 FT-LBS. I got those specs straight from Dave Buschur. and he is the only one that i would ever trust with my car.
