It's normal for a "generic" type brand manifold, it's not that great. Even though we are a dc sports dealer, we've switched to GTSPEC manifolds - they are that much better.

Sucks you got a bad mani. Everyone is right about DC Sports replacing it though. I must say that for the price though, it isn't bad. I got a new version and I like it. Mainly I like the looks of it. I have never been a big fan of tubular mani's but I got this one and dig it. To me, tube mani's are just another part that WILL go bad and not have that long of a life.

Sorry for your luck bro. Hopefully you can get it replaced...I know it is a PITA...But it will be cheaper than going the new manifold route.

Both I suppose! I am going back and looking at the thread. If you have a crack in the mani, DC should/will replace it. I think the thing that most people don't realize, which isn't bad...Is that manifold that are high dollar, you are paying a price for precision hand welds most of the times...in some instances, it is just the name.

To my knowledge, these are robitc welded manifold. They do a good job cleaning most things up. The gaps in between the runners and the manifold flange are KIND OF to be expected as they mass produce this stuff and it cost what...$350 or so for a consumer? So we are getting a good deal. But if you want bling and strength, you have to cough up for JIC or Tomei. I personally like it but I drive like a BIATCH until I pay off some of the car. Then I will probably scrap a lot of things and go bonkers with the engine.

Good luck guys.

EvoIXMR,

I am shocked to see the pictures you have sent.. honestly this is not a coincidence but a poor quality control and cheap assembly methods from DC sport.

I am not sure what kind of shorcut is AMS/DCsport trying to do, after seeing the pictures of your manifold I clearly see this is not a coincidence but a poor manufacturing craftman skills.

I am wondering the standards of the person that is welding these headers, does it give a damn about the final product ? how can a craftman weld a manifold an leave such gaps and crocket tubes? how about his supervisor, is he even having a second look and saying: this is not right?

As I said before, some manufacturers simply don't deserve the credit they get.

My .2c

When did they stop producing the Version1 and start the Version2. I order one in March 2006 and I didn't pick it up at my friend place since. I'm kind of worry I get the old one now after seeing that thread. But look like Soon2evo's DC hold up fine.

Shortcuts we're trying to do? WTF does that mean?

We're trying to help the guy out. We didn't sell him the manifold, nor did we manufacture it. For $300 something dollars, it's a great piece. DC has been more than cool about replacing them. What more can you ask for? They found an issue with their design and they fixed it.

Don't try and lump us into a DC sports manifold issue. Reread and get a clue.

GT-Spec is better maybe in terms of quality and looks but not performance...

Did you guys ever think. Just maybe take into consideration the fact that Mitsubishi Manufactured EVERY Evo from 1 - 9 with a CAST IRON header. Do you think they did this for the hell of it? The 4G63 is a VERY hot engine. And being that the block is cast iron, wouldn't you think it might, just MIGHT not dissipate heat as fast as an aluminum block engine? They run a cast iron header in their rally car as well. The 4G63 just isn't something you put a tubular header on.

OK, UPDATE from DC Sports:

I called and talked to Kae at DC Sports, emailed him the above pictures. They called me back today and said this is common with a mass produced robotic welded header. They said this would not affect performance and that the welds on the front side of the flange and on the collectors is what really matters. They said that the version 2 (which mine is) is less prone to cracking and that the changes made to the head flange will make a difference. He believes it was some sort of stress relief design, but was 100% sure. So, I guess I feel more confident now! Time will tell!

I forgot to update you guys. I sent an e-mail to AEM/DC Sports with picturesof my header and also the receipt of purchase. It took then a few days to respond and I had to made a few phone calls but I finally got contacted back.

The customer service talked to the R&D department and they called me back today. They are going to replace my header for a new one. They are also arranging to pick up my header from my house or from any location I want to give them.

The person in the customer service says that he has not heard any complaints of these header on the Evos, nor the R&D department... uhmmmm, I can't comment on that. What do you guys think?

Anyway, for those just jumping in the train now you know that AEM/DCsports has a decent customer service and they are willing to replace the parts for free

Thank for the update, it's good to know DC sports will replace it.

I didn't got mine yet, and hope I will get the version 2.

Anyway, if it cracks... I know they will replace it.
