I know EVO's can own at the strip too. Corba's can too, cheaper.
Cajun Power don't take offense to this, but what the heck are you talking about, the only advantage of an EVO is the back seat??? What about handling, what about the brakes (which have saved my *** on more than one occassion), what about the advantage of AWD during NC winters (does it snow there a lot, not sure), what about the fact that it's a freakin' Ford and that's a lot coming from a Mitsubishi owner, and what about weight (The Cobra is very heavy and feels it). Look don't get me wrong, the Cobra as far as straight line performance has few equals, but the EVO overall is the superior performance car and I guarrantee the Cobra will get very old very quickly, why because the EVO is that great of a car. Many Cobra owners have made the switch, and some EVO owners who went Cobra, have switched back to the EVO.

Your post seems to imply that you don't like the Cobra....so what's the issue here?

And where at in NC are you?

These are the guys i would love to hear from and why. I have a truck that i drive 90% of the time. I was stationed in Minot ND for 6 years with 91 300zx. I i had no problems in the winter. Sure not as good as awd but still got around fine. So thats not my concern. Ah man i suck at this decision thing, im gonna go wash my car.

yea, cobras are much more capable than people in this thread are implying. I also almost parted my car and traded for an 04 cobra (coupe - no convert for me). The car is much more refined as far as looks go IMO and modding is cheap and easy yet brings on huge power gains

i ended up not getting one b/c i just didnt want to give up the nimble abilities of the evo...and the evo can be modded for big HP gains, although it does cost more...

its really all personal opinion...but the cobra is a VERY capable car...i plan on buying the new shebly gt500 when the markups go away and i can afford one

Warrtalon-

I meant the difference between what he would get in trade in vs. what he has to pay for the Cobra. Brand new, the cars are similarly priced.

My brother hangs out with a lot Cobra guys that go to the track, and from what i've seen, mid to high elevens is pretty average for heavily modded Cobras. Most are on slicks, but they still have traction issues.

if you are really into drag racing, ive heard lots of complaints about the IRS suspension on the cobras. the IRS can cause too much wheel hop and loss of traction, and we all know how damaging wheel hop is. most serious mustang guys convert to a solid rear axle, which isnt cheap

well your right, somethings i don like about it. But when you can get new gears for a rear diff for like $150bucks vs say like 2 tc gears where you have to buy the whole unit for 2grand. And that is the part I am paroniod about breaking. And i cant spell. Its like the evo is a specail car so prices are high for parts, the cobra is a special car or motor anyways and prices are cheap. damn import markup. I guess I need to ride in a stang with 2grand of mods. Then it would have the same amount of money i have in mine. How bad is the gas milagle really on a svt? Also I wish the evo had the stangs 6th gear, i was doing like 60mph at 1200rpm.

why not consider an 05? i've test driven one and the handling is 200 percent better than a 03/04, (my friend has an 03 cobra). The 05s are also much better styling wise. Or better yet why not wait till summer for the 07 shelby GT500. If your gonna spend a lot of cash moding an 03 cobra, you might as well just put the money into the originial purchase price and get the underrated 450 hp/torque motor and the superior tranny/suspension. Plus the 07 SHelby GT500 cobra looks means as hell too.

there are no 05 cobras, and an 05 GT would be significantly slower than the 03/04 cobra. as for handing, I dont know much about how either handles, as I have no experience driving mustangs.

frankly, I don't plan on doing it anytime soon either.

b/c when the 07's come out, they are going to be marked up at least $5-10k for several months, if not the rest of the calendar year...unless he orders one and he will still be paying msrp which is a ripoff anyways...

like i said, i plan on buying one...but not until they have been out long enough that i can talk the price down below msrp

I try to stay out of these posts but heres my two cents.

I've driven an 01 GT for 3 years (heavily modified, makes about 320whp off the bottle so nothing like a cobra). I know a few people from the mustang club, one has an 800+ Hp cobra. The question is this, are you going to drive every day in this car? If so keep the evo. Why? Gas milage in my GT is about 13 mpg in the city, its 23ish on the highway. Next I can easily burn my tires no matter how sticky of a brand i get in almost any gear. When it rains it gets interesting, if it was for traction control then i'd never make it anywhere. When it snows, i tried to drive it once, the back end of my car kept trying to race the front end to my house. This was with 200lbs and snow tires in the back. If it snows my car get stuck constantly, so I have to have it stored before the first snow no matter what or else its stuck untill the snow melts, usually all winter. Next, people really like to screw with mustangs, mine has been keyed 4 times, dented in various places, all this with an alarm on it.
As for FORD quality, I don't know if i got lucky but I've never ever had a problem with my car. There is no squeaks or annoying noises when it drives, it handles wonderfully around corners(obviously not an EVO but it grips the road well at high speeds and sharp corners). I've never had any mechancical problems with it. It's been reliable every day. I just hate driving it and looking around waiting for the next gangbanger that notices it(mustangs really stick out) to walk by and write his name in my paint with a pocket knife.

if u wish to have an all around performance car, keep the Evo.

if u wish to have a straightline car, Cobra hands down!!

it's really up to what u want; the Cobra's are just nasty for making power to go straight. they are side by side with the Supra's in this regard.

specifications for stock 03 SVT cobra convert:

Engine Specs: 4.6L V-8 390HP
Transmission: 6-spd man w/OD
Fuel Economy City: 16.0 mpg
Fuel Economy Highway: 22.0 mpg

there is no replacement for displacement. sure, technology plays it part, but apply that technology to a bigger motor, and the bigger motor wins. if u're a straightline guy, u can't go wrong with a Cobra IMO.

so if u enjoy drag racing more than circuit racing, and u want to have a highway MONSTER, get the Cobra but like someone said, straightline speed might eventually get old to u, and u might want to come back to a more well rounded car eventually....u're the only one who knows what u want

good luck.
