I had a 03' Cobra before I had my EVO. I had some issues with mine, but I loved the 5 months I had it. My Cobra laid down 390whp - 375trq 100% stock on a local DynoJet. It trapped 89mph in the 1/8 as well.

If your wanting to use it for drag racing, I would suggest getting a coupe over a convertible. The coupes weigh about 3600lbs and the convertibles are pushing 3800lbs.

My Cobra handled pretty good for what it was and I was happy with it the way it handled. I had a issue of my car puffing oil smoke out of the exhaust after it would sit for several hours. They had some issues with the valve seals from what I've heard, but they tried to tell me it was normal. After dealing with the local stealerships around here I got tired of it and traded it in with less than 8000 miles on it for my EVO.

I now have a 7 month old son and my EVO fits my daily needs with a child seat and more room in it for other things compared to the Cobra. I bought my Cobra in Jan. of 2003 and I had to deal with snow for a few more months. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as fun as the EVO is.....with all seasons of course.

My EVO is still about 1.5 mph slower in teh 1.8 with all my mods on it compared to my stock Cobra, BUT my ET's are ALOT lower in the EVO. My best was a 8.504 @ 89 mph in my Cobra and my best in my EVO is a 7.86 @ 87 mph with my EVO. Simple solution to this is.........1.73 60ft. > 2.42 60ft. I was on all seasons with my EVO and I was on the stock Eagle F1's in the Cobra.

These cars are not really a rivalry like someone mentioned. The Cobra can and will go faster with less money......simple. Remember....you can upgrade the turbo on the EVO, but you can also put a turbo or turbos on the Cobra too. you won't need to rebuild the motor on the Cobra to make 700-800 whp either.

Good luck with your choice. IMO.....you can't really go wrong with either car. you just have to realize that they both serve a perpose and one can do thing better than the other and vis versa.

When I traded in my 99 mustang, I almost bought the 04 cobra....until I took it for a test drive. The power was good, but it didn't feel as fast as it was. The ergonomics were terrible, as it was on my old car. The handling was just poor too, and despite being underrated at 390 hp or whatever, it wasnt that much fun to drive.

To be totally honest, I actually prefer driving the older 99-01 cobras on the steet. They are lighter, handle better, sound better and dont feel that much slower on surface streets.

As far as reliability is concerned with the Ford, its gonna be hit or miss, just like Mitsu or any other car is. I had a few problems with my mustang, but nothing too expensive. And the dealerships and customer service agents are far better.

IDK, im glad I own my evo. Even at stock power levels, its more fun to drive on the steet than a mustang cobra, despite being slower in a straight line.

well im going to stick with the evo. the stang did not give me the "i must have this car" feel that the evo did. And I have yet to hear anyone of my boys say I wont regret it. They all say i will want the evo back. and most likly there right. This whole situation was also ran on the cobra board. Feel fee to check it out, there a bunch off good guys. And kinda gave me the apples to oranges answer. And its a good answer. One day ill just own both. Here the thread, its good reading for anyone debating this swap.

Yeah with the dealership thing, I decide that after the first mod I would only take my car in for warenty work if it was like and interior thing, say heater broke or some thing. or dash cluster goes out. I just wish they would offer a NO drivetrain warenty option and drop the price a bit on the car.

In what?

My best pass with the stock 03' Cobra was a 8.504 @ 89mph w/2.42 60ft.

My best pass with my EVO that has intake, 3" tbe, 272's, and custom tune is a 7.960 @ 87mph w/1.73 60ft.

congrats on keeping the Evo

like u, i also lust after a straight line monster car. but i will stick to imports and eventually get a mkIV Supra

no way would i sell the Evo IX for anything on the market right now, so the only solution is to keep the Evo and get something else

Good choice sticking with the Evo. There wasn't really much difference in fuel economy between my Evo and Cobra. I got around 18-20 mpg in the Cobra with 60 lb/hr injectors and focus fuel pumps. My Evo gets 22-23 mpg with 2.3L/35R/1000cc inj.

youre basing your entire opinion on a car from one trip to the track?? the driver must have been terrible..what was the new z06 trapping?? youre basically saying a 450whp RWD car with 12" wide rear wheels (325/30 tires) is not in its element from a dig the only reason it wouldnt perform from a dig is if the driver sucks and couldnt get the car to hook

i have seen several vids of new z06's stock running low to mid 11's in the 1/4

edit: heres one of the videos (sorry, this guy has midpipes and an air filter, but bogged the launch)

I have to ask, is there any way you can lean the fuel curve out drasticaly at like 10-20% throttle. That way you could get killer gas milage on the highway. And just make it to as soon as the throttle or any boost say above 5psi is built then the car switchs maps. I maganged to do this on my sr20det, I had the emanage. I was able to run super lean on the highway and get over 30mpg. But the second you put your foot into it the map would change keep teh af just right. Then again you did not say if this was like an adverage or just highway. If its adverage then your doing great.

No I can name a few others too. Thats just what I saw recently. Also arent the zo6 rated at like mid 12sec 1/4miless? However, the only corvette I saw to get into the 12's was a modded 02 zo6. The rest of them barely hit 13.2.

I do know that the new zo6 and even the c6 are supposed to be very fast! However, the only new one I have seen run is at qualcomm and like I said it was running from 9.1-9.3 consistently.

Again I am just telling you what I have seen personally at the track. MAybe they were all horrible drivers? I dunno all I can say is what they were running.
