Does HKS Down Pipe n Anniversary Cat-back fit on a EvoIX or are there fitment issues?

Hi all,

So my friend is parting out his car cause of financial reasons. He told me he would sell his HKS Downpipe and Cat-back to me for $450.00. I haven't seen the condition of it yet, but I'm sure it is good.

I was gonna buy a Esplier cat-back and Buschur down pipe cause of the perfect fitment. But here are my 2 worries about buying his HKS setup...

1. I hear that it's not a true 3 inch design, so will it affect my performance in a big way before or when I get my dyno flash .

2. His car is an Evo 8, is there any fitment issues for the HKS downpipe and cat-back on the 9, like ratteling..etc...etc.. .

Thanks in advanced. I'd research, but I don't have time right now. I'll check this thread in a bit.

Justin

Its not a true 3 inch, it necks down to 2.5 inches.

The Carbon Ti when installed on my IX hit the driveshaft, no matter what it could not be made to fit cleanly. Some other IX's are fine, I guess quality control in the form of consistent manufacturing is an issue perhaps.

Buschur DP leaks (does not retain the donut gasket). Look elsewhere IMO unless leaks dont bother you - they drive me nuts personally.

before somebody ses SEARCH...i'll be a nice guy and answer:

1. HKS is 2.95in or 75mm. 3inch is roughly 80mm. so the difference is negligible and won't hurt performance at all. if you have and 2 1/4 inch exhaust....now that's a big difference from a 3 inch.

by the way, both hks and espelir neck down at the flange after the cat. but shouldn't hurt performance. its not like you can feel 1-3 horsepower difference.

2. i'm not sure. but i have read somewhere here on this board that some hks exhaust are known to touch the drive shaft. but it should be an easy fix by modifying the hangers a bit.

LOL...thanks Tirbolag9...I can search when I get home from work. Just looking for quick opinions.

I'm still debating if I should get the exhaust or not.

Hmmm decisions...decisions.

I heave heard the HKS necks down to even less then 2.5" inside the cannister, which is less then stock. look here: "beer can test"

thanks GP. after checking out the link i guess that narrows down my exhaust decision...espelir! plus its cheaper than the hks.

LOL...Finally had time to research...For $450 for a Down pipe and Hks Anniversary cat-back, I can't go wrong. Plus I like the sound of the HKS set-up even though it necks down. I mean it wont make that big of a difference. Plus I'll be retaining my stock turbo.

If I went all new HKS stuff, it would be 559 shipped and 355 shipped for the HKS TBE w/o the test pipe.

Or Esplier $475 shipped n $325 shipped for a Buschur dn-pipe. So all in all I'm saving $400 dollars for a HKS brand named parts in good condition.

Let's see Dyno flash $199.00; BR intake $85; Forge Unos MBC $85....$369 + shipping...hey there goes that extra $400.
