disconnecting speedometer cable?

I know this is a super dumb question, but how do you disconnect the speedometer cable from the speedometer sensor (on the backside of the tranny near the firewall)? Its kind of hard to get a good look at the plastic clip that is holding it, it almost seems like it is being held on by a metal clip (like the injectors) but I am not sure...anyone have any suggestions?

I actually had to replace my speed sensor.. its a ***** to do it without breaking that clip. Good luck. I had to get a "nifty" ratchet behind the Trans mount and losen a bolt. There is a bolt that extends only a couple mm over the top of the speed sensor. You have to back it out. Sucks..

I don't need to remove the entire sensor from the transmission, I just need to disconnect the cable connected to the sensor. Do you remember what size the bolt is that holds in the sensor? 8mm?

you just push that metal clip in and pull up on the sensor and it'll come off

now why would you want to do that? i know on the older cars if you do that it will not keep track of your milage..but on the newer ones is it still the same theory?

replace the sensor to be safe... its not too pricey. I did the gear, the sensor and the harness piece.

It does keep track of the milege. Just the same.

Also, as far as just removing the metal clip, u can prolly do that.. however, you might break some of the plastic off the connector on the Trans bolt. I believe the bolt size was big, like 16-17mm... It's a total ***** to get at too.

Do any of you guys know the part # for the little section of wiring harness that connects to the reverse light switch and the speedometer on the tranny (it detaches from the rest of the wiring harness)? The dealership cannot find this part! Argh.
