possible tranny problem? What did I do wrong :(

I was just driving today.. I accidentally changed from 4th gear to neutral "WITHOUT" pressing the clutch... I was shocked.. how did this happened? I launch my car sometimes but.. why is this happening? I tried to search... doesn't really answer/solve my problem... I'm really worried

It might be a dumb situation for you guys.. but I don't know really know if this is normal or not?

It can happen somtimes with very little pressure. if it does it by itself you have a problem, otherwise I think you are just fine. BTW its not a good idea to drive with your hand on the shifter, it car wear the shifter bushings and mess with your sycro's.

i read that keeping pressure on the shifter can damage the synchros in the mitsu manual also..don't know how it can do damage, but thats what it says...

It is bad to put pressure on your stick shift while you are driving. newimportowner is correct.

Don't spread your "information" if you...
1) Never heard of it
2) Don't actually know.

it's normal, i can even shift from neutral to 5th without using the clutch, it's detrimental to ur syncros but if you pop it from a geat to neutral you will be fine as long as u wern't gassing it

+1 You do not drive with your hand on the shifter because you will push it slightly and wear out the syncros. I thought that was a well known fact. I guess not.

Here's another one that should be obvious- do not drive with your foot resting on the clutch pedal. This will cause premature wear of the clutch.
