i need some advice on evo or other car
I learned on a 99 Impreza RS, great starter car. Also, with the 20mm rear sway bar it was an excellent way to learn how to balance the car mid-corner.
In fact, I wish I had kept it...

Dude I was worried at first too but I practiced a little bit on my buddys civic, and my boss let me barrow his Z4.
Then I drove the IX. It's not too tough at all. I just don't launch it, cause i haven't been driving stick that long.

I learned how to drive stick in my Evo. It was very intimidating considering it had about 3 times the power from my previous car (1999 Civic EX), but somehow I managed and learned quickly. This car is a ***** to drive at first, but then you get used to it.
I only have my lp and I have been able to drive a stick since the first time I tried it, its not hard. I work at a concrete company too and get to drive some of the standard trucks, nothing is harder to drive than old F150 rackbodies with more than 150,000 miles on them, and I have yet to stall one so you should be fine. Get the Evo.
Honestly, if it was just learning how to drive a stick, I'd be ok with suggesting the evo. However, heel-toe downshifting is another thing all together. It's taken me 7 years of practice and I'd still not consider myself very good at it. Fortunately, the first four years were spent on another car.
I think it's easier to learn driving stick on powerful cars. The engine just doesn't die that easily.
First time I drove stick was in my brother's 83 celica. It was damn difficult. I gave up stick until I got my viper. When I bought it I had my brother drove it home for me. It wasn't hard to learn, but the evo is way easier.
Go for it and take your time; don't step on the gas too harsh.

Check out my ride for sale. It is very easy to learn it on VWs. Give me a call, I am close by...

if you want to be fast in an evo i'll suggest two things.
first call around to as many rental places you can, rent a mustang for a day (5 speed) and then learn how to drive stick. give it a couple weeks to sink in, then do it again. from there you should have your clutch smoking out of the way, practice on someone else's car regularly until you're familiar.
then buy the skip barber school of racing book called going faster. it's only 20 bucks. read it... let it sink in and then renounce your "fast" street driving and get track time.
