i need some advice on evo or other car
Id learn on somone else's car first. Cheap civic? Its not hard. After about a day you should have it down. At least i did. I learned on a cobra which was kind of scary... yet fun hehe. Good luck... And unless your getting a MR, u shouldnt be paying 34K for an evo
The clutch isn't the best if it is still stock and being your first manual you may have a little trouble. Dont worry though cause once you get use to it you will be very glad you got the evo.
Learning to drive manual after automatic is always going to be more difficult than the other way round, but I'm sure it's not beyond your abilities.
However, I would not advise learning on an evo, at least not on public roads. If something goes wrong it can cost you $$$'s and probably more. It's a very fast car and going around all the time trying to do stuff you're not used to is just too dangerous. Just too much to think about all at the same time - in something a LOT faster than what you're used to. Let's face it, driving a car like an evo you really need to be quite switched on. I'm not saying you're a retard or that you have to be like a chipmunk on amphetamine, but we've seen numerous evidence of people who stoved their evo's just cos they weren't paying attention.
FWIW, I'd learn on a civic or if you really want, a wrx or something similar. It should give you a pretty good starting point. Once you've got the whole shifting thing to the point you don't have to think about it, get an evo...

If you aren't intelligent enough to understand the dynamics behind operating a manual car, DO NOT GET AN EVO! EVER.
I say this because a decent driver should have the basics nailed before you even ever get in the drivers seat of your first manual. Good drivers are born from there.. I mean how hard can it be 1-2-3-4-5 maybe 6 and R means reverse; god forbid you get and MR and have to find reverse. Let the pedals out at equal speeds, ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!
My Evo was my first manual car (bike was first manual automobile) and i drove both off their respective lots and never even thought twice about if i was capable or not; i never had any formal training, my family never even owned a manual growing up, i just understood how it worked, it's simple. AND i'm not even a good driver, check my sig, i'm average.
We don't need any more Evo's running 16's at the track ...Buy an STi

The evo was my first manual car. I did practice on a Trans Am for a few days. After that I had the basics down. It is all about how fast you pick up on things. I chose to practice on a on a fsat car to try to simulate what it would be like on an evo. I know it was a RWD car but it was a faster car than my previous car....I camry.
go ahead and get the evo if you can afford it. you can always practice on a friends car before you start driving the evo.
i learned on my (at the time) gf's integra. it was easy as pie. then i went and tried to drive my 5.0 mustang and it was completely different. i never would've been able to learn on the mustang. the clutch was ridiculously heavy.
EVERYONE knows someone who owns an old civic. have them take you out to an open parking lot and take the wheel. put it in first and slowly let the clutch out. don't touch the gas. find the point where it starts to move the car and leave it there.
done. you've learned the hardest part of driving stick and you didn't muck up your new evo. day 2 should be hills =)

actually, getting a crappy old truck would be good. Specially one with a really horrible, even non-synchromesh, tranny. Drive it for a week and the evo's gearbox you feel absolutely wonderful and you'll never have any problem with any tranny again ever.
Go rent a stick and get the insurance
. Honestly it is not that hard. I learned to drive in my mom's 280Z way back when. The evo is an easy car to drive. But if you can practice in someone elses car that is the best way to go.

Your GF knew how to drive a stick and you didn't?
That's awesome
