WTF is this thing for??? *PIC INSIDE*

So this has bugged me for a while. It's stupid, but I am curious.

I've been wondering what function/purpose this vent serves, as I've seen it on other makes and models in approximately the same location. So what does it do, what is it for? sorry for the crappy cell phone pics!

I believe some Evos have it and some (like mine) don't. Could be wrong but it serves no purpose in the Evo it just happens to be that whole "cross-platform-lets-save-money-and-use-the-same-thing-on-many-cars-even-though-some-cars-have-no-purpose- for-this" type of scenario

no it's not real CF. I have it on my MR.. It's printed and clear coated plastic. It looks pretty real, they did a good print job.

I think it might be a vent for climate control. My STi had something almost identical and I believe it was for a thermometer that regulated the automatic climate control.

It's a Big Brother Mitsubishi Listening Devise. They know when to void your warranty.

it is a vent for the auto climate control. since the evo in jdm land and ukdm land have autoclimate controls they have the slots. but since we dont get it they are not going to change production of that dash piece.

My 8 didn't have that but my 9 does...

I was thinking of hooking a cologne bottle up to it so I can get "fresh" in emergency situations.

Another advantage of the 9
