Question Mechanical vs. Electrical Oil Pressure Guage

Well I did a search on this, and all I came up with were threads on the installation proceedures of these guages, and which fittings to use.

So here's my question: Which one would be better? Or does it matter? Also, does the mechanical ones actually bring oil to the guage, thereby bringing it into your cockpit? If that's the case, who was the braniac that came up with that idea?

Thanks for the help.

Mechanical gauges works fine, but if you want more accuracy in reading and you have other electronic gizmo in your Evo that you can hook up this electronic gauge, go for the electronic gauge. Both gauges i think have the same mechanical oil sender to the gauge but the electronic gauge has an ADC(analog to digital converter) so you get more accurate reading. Goodluck!

Okay, now you just went and confused me Cajun Power. Oguratevo stated that they both have a sender, but the electric one has an ADC. But you're saying that it brings oil into the cabin. So which one is it?

Mechanical gauges don't bring hot oil into your dash. You have to install a sender under the hood, and that must t- into your filter or oil line, and then a wire runs from that into the cabin. Mechanical gauges usually have a full 270 degree sweep while the electrical ones might only be 90 degree sweep. The newer electric gauges that have the full sweep faces cost a lot more.

Ahh okay, sweet. Thanks GP! I was looking at getting a mechanical one to save a little money, plus like you said they are more often full sweep, and I think that looks better. There also seems to be a higher prevelence of the mechanical ones, so it's easier for me to get my hands on one. Hense the questions.

Thanks again for the help everyone!

Okay, I was just looking on Autometers website, and that's what it says is included with the guage, but no mention of a sending unit. So what's going on here?

Okay, I think I may have found my answer. You must buy an isolater separate if you don't want oil coming into the cabin with a mechanical guage. At least with the Autometer guages, I'm not sure about the others that are out there.

Thanks again for the help though.
