I agree with others that the paint is the worst component of the car. Mine is missing paint on the leading edge of the fuel filler opening.

Still... I find it quite interesting that nearly 84% of Evo owners have no problems or just "minor" problems. Granted many of the Evos out there have less than 10K miles on them but I still think this is a decent indicator of initial build quality.

Personally I think the car is fairly well made. I just finished tearing apart the interior to install somes amps and speakers. My initial impression is that the car is well designed from an assembly standpoint. It's easy to take apart and put back together... rattle free even. The car is easier to disassemble than the previous VW products I have owned. Just my $0.02...

I'm around 1600, and I gotta say that driving this car is like seeing one of those movies that ends up becoming one of your favorites: The kind that you immediately want all of your friends to go see it so they can understand, then you quote so much it becomes like a second language. My past 4 cars have all been saabs, (which I still love to death), but as goes without saying, even including the spg, aero, viggen, etc, the Evo is a completely different animal. So far Mitsi gets two bug thumbs up there guy, for making car thats doubled my expedature on gas cause I can't stop driving it.

Sorry for the gushy newbie rant. Don't blame me though, you remember what it was like when you drove it for the first time. ; )

Thanks guys for posting. I'm currently in the market for an EVO for the wife and I really want to know about the car, warts and all. OH, and by the way...not all Subie owners are biased. It IS possible to love both the STi and the EVO. I expect by years end, both will be in our driveway.

Both cars are the **** any which way you look at it. Enjoy both your rides and pimp on bro. Look for those nice winter sales for both, I'm sure many dealers will be willing to dump them for close to invoice now.

It's always goood to have the best of both worlds before getting biased about one or the other.

Anyway, the weird paint chips behind the rear left door are because of the door being set wrong, so to the people who the dealer wouldn't fix theirs, copy off the big thread about it that is floating around this forum and take it to the dealer.

No problems here, 11200 miles.

funny thing is that on the invoice it didnt have the clear paint , that some cars get charge for . Well at least the Highlander came with that and have no problems .
Also some of the peeps that are having problems with there clutch is it cause its abuse and not normal driving conditions ???
Its a fun car to drive and also its very easy to gun it all the time

STI and EVO are both nice. I chose the EVO becuase I prefer the styling and I felt more comfortable in it during the test drive. STI comes with a better clutch but no sunroof option. Its all preference. I love to see both cars driving around. "They're puurty."

5500 miles took it in because of a noise, told me i needed to replace my entire trans. After much debate, they are replacing 3rd, 4th the synchros and the bearings. That will be under warranty, but i have to pay for the clutch replacement and labor.

having owned a wrx, im very UNimpressed with the build quality of the evo...but i do love the suspension!

I have less than 2000, but I have no probs. My bro-in-law has STi and it is great the one time I drove it. But I must say I love my Evo.

Budlong, I remember a thread you had where they voided your warranty and that had me worried, so I'm glad things seemed to have worked out a little better.

Out of 212 votes 83% have no problems or small problems, 7.6% have medium problems and 9.4% have large problems. Considering the number of posts talking about what amounts to abuse of the equipment I find these numbers very positive and encouraging.

Well I haven't had any problems and I'm sure there are many more in my same boat. I think by scanning these boards now (any car applies) you can get the impression of poor quality because you see topics like "My tranny blew up" or "Only 1000 miles and I'm replacing the clutch" or "What is this sound".

I realize it's not perfect. The small, medium, and large problems are all relative but it's better than a "yes I've had problems" or "no I have not had problems" becuase then you group the people with a rattle in the dash with those that have had an engine failure.

In the end the poll may never work but I thought it might be worth a try.

Do another poll with this question:
How much have you spent on repairs so far at the mileage you have now?
(Include future spending on problems that are apparent but yet to be fixed or problems fixed under warranty but NOT problems caused by accidents)..

Then set up options for different mileage e.g. :
1) Under 5K - <US$1000
2) Under 5k - US$1000-US$1999
3) etc
4) etc
x) Over 30k - >US$30,000

This should give you a good view of what you are trying to find out...

Hope it helps.. good luck.

Actually, my suggestion is to let this die and just ask people what if any problems they are having. What are you attempting to find aquire from this poll anyway? I can see it now on NASIOC.com....."the EVO's suck so bad they have polls about their quality issues!"

Mike
Well being a WRX owner I can tell you that most WRX/STi owners really love the EVO, I mean, how can't you love that car???

As far as reliability goes, the EVO is every bit as reliable as any WRX or STi. I have some rattles in my WRX w/ 16,000 miles so I think almost any car under $35K is gonna have some minor problems. Heck, even cars over $35K could have little problems like rattles, etc.

Anyway, I just wanted to add my .02 from a subie owner, and let you know that people on NASIOC don't say bad things about the EVO's reliability, at least not the smart ones.
