POLL: Mitsubishi build quality on the EVO

I'm curious how these EVO's hold up over time. I'm hopeing that this thread will stay around so that we can all keep updating this poll. I've broken the poll up by the size of the problem encountered (large=not drivable...small=rattle in the dash) and by the number of miles on your EVO.

Where's the "no problem" choice? I haven't even had a small problem.

I've had no problems, but I'm going to "guesstimate" that I'll have some small problem in 10K-30K, since some people are already experiencing some problems.

I think the paint quality is VERY low. I am getting a lot of chips. I am thinking of taking it to the dealer and telling them to fix it.

850 miles, no problems. Yet to miss a shift, no problems from transmission shifting hard and softly, fast or slow

I hope it keeps this way. I would have to agree that the paint quality could be better, esp. if compared to cars in the same price range.

A poll like this is not going to work. Small and large are relative feelings that each person may view as different. A rattle to one is small and to the other the same rattle may annoy the sh*t out of them making it a big problem. Same issue, different opinions. Your poll should be more specific. Actually, my suggestion is to let this die and just ask people what if any problems they are having. What are you attempting to find aquire from this poll anyway? I can see it now on NASIOC.com....."the EVO's suck so bad they have polls about their quality issues!"

the point of the poll was to get a better idea of build quality. The Subaru guys are already saying the EVO is crap because of tranny and clutch problems. Well I haven't had any problems and I'm sure there are many more in my same boat. I think by scanning these boards now (any car applies) you can get the impression of poor quality because you see topics like "My tranny blew up" or "Only 1000 miles and I'm replacing the clutch" or "What is this sound".

I realize it's not perfect. The small, medium, and large problems are all relative but it's better than a "yes I've had problems" or "no I have not had problems" becuase then you group the people with a rattle in the dash with those that have had an engine failure.

In the end the poll may never work but I thought it might be worth a try.

Well, you are going to have some Subaru fans calling Evos "crap" regardless of problems, and vice versa. Some people are just very proud and biased about their favorite cars and will bash the competition no matter what. It's like a Ford vs Chevy or Camaro vs Mustang thing. I don't think there will ever be a cure for this (and I don't know that there should be). To be honest, I think that most STi buyers have great respect for the Evo, and vice versa.

As a potential Evo or STi buyer, I am concerned about the Evo tranny/clutch/wing problems. I don't know how widespread they are (or aren't), and I would like to know.

I think you are on to a good idea here with the poll, although this current poll format seems to generic and subjective. Instead, you might create a poll for each problem. For example, create a tranny grinding noise poll. How many Evo owners with at least 1000 miles (500? 2000?) have the grinding tranny noise? (A) Never have had it, (B) I have it, and (C) I had it but is now fixed. You could do the same for the clutch failure and wing problem.

I think this would give a much better idea about how many people are (or are not) experiencing these problems. Believe me, I would love nothing better than to learn that only a very small initial batch of Evos had these problems and the rest all run like clockwork.

Havent had a major problem. I have noticed that it does not always like to go into 2nd gear ....specially after a hard launch. Maybe I was just used to my Eclipse gears and clutch. Also (stupid quirk) the passenger seatbelt gets twisted when the passenger exits and rattles against side of paneling...easily fixed, but to me just a stupid rattle.

Ok Martyr...create the poll(s). I think it would be great seeing as the wing, tranny, and clutch have been the only problems we've heard of so far. I would love to know how wide spread it is.
