Are you a True Fan?

I am new to this board, but not new to Mitsubishi, and I don't know about you guys and gals, but I am tired of people always comparing the EVO to the STi. Its kinda like this, you like a certain football team because they are wining then some new team comes out and you jump ship. Those are not true fans. Same with the EVO. I have been following this car for a decade. I have also followed Subies for a decade all in WRC. I am a Mitsubishi fan, and it doesn't matter if the US Spec STi is going to be 1/10th of a second quicker to 60, I don't care. Mitsubishi is my team. Here is a quote from Car and Driver Mag, " The Lancer EVO VIII is one of the best cars we have ever tested, its in the top 3% of all cars we have tested in the last five years." That shows the Lancer is respected, and is an overall best package. Its not all about HP sometimes, in WRC like NASCAR everything is restricted, the cars are equals, and only the best driver and car win. Its the companation of the two that make a winning team in WRC or any car event. So go ahead and buy your STi you non believers, and when you miss a shift and I blow by you, you will hate yourself. Lets stop this comparo all the time. Be on the Team this site supports which is Mitsubishi. If you love Subies, go to WRX home sites and talk smack. Lets respect this car for what it is. A street legal WRC race car. Lets realize that the potential of this car and the STi will never be seen on the street, but on the track, and I am not taking my 1 of 6000 Lancer and risk wrecking it, go do that to your STi. I have my Lancer as a tribute to my hard work and dedication to this car. I love you all, and I love All Cars. But if you have to really think about which car you want, then you are not a true fan of this car. If you do love it, and you do get one, respect it, and it will treat you very well. Just my thoughts........

Buying a car because you are a "true fan" of the company is about the stupidest thing I've ever heard, no offense. You pay out of your own pocket to get the car, and you want to base your decision on which company you have been a fan of in the past. Most of us who think logically like to get the most out of our money.

I bought my EVO because I liked the combination of performance, styling, and value, not because it is a . If the STi was not, IMHO, so fugly, I probably would have bought itinstead. That would not have made me a Subi fan.

I agree that the bashing and smack talking is a total waste of time and serves no purpose other than to occupy the otherwise idle minds of those that choose to engage.

Lighten up and enjoy your cars!

Brand loyalty? What the hell for?

I’m getting an EVO in the very near future because I think it is the best car for me. If the EVO was not being released in the US, then I’d get a STi and feel no guilt because it’s the next best thing in my book. When my son owns an auto company, I’ll be a fan for his company for greater or worse. (He’s not even old enough to use a toitel, so, I have some time to wait for that.) Until then I’m nobody’s damn “fan.” So, until Mr. Mitsubishi or Mr. Subaru starts signing my pay check, I’ll stick to buying from the company whose got the best product at the time.

Sarcasm: Why doesn’t everybody in the world think like me? It would be a better place to live.

and if the EVO makes him happiest, he is getting the most happiness for his money
thats what life' sall about, being happy. I can see what your saying, some of us might not be happy if the STI can edge out the EVO in what-not-so-and-so, and want to get an STI instead, but clearly this man is happy owning an EVO regardless.

Im personally very happy with my base model Lancer and feel i did get the most for my money, in my eyes.

Its all about perspective.

EDIT: I am a Die Hard VW man. Lookit me, i drive a ...

To each his own guyz ... one can justify his/her purchase in many ways ... who cares if it's brand loyalty, looks, or the type of performance one is after. It's all about being happy with the purchase. For me ... I fell in love with the external/internal appearance of the evo, even though the STi is a little faster in a straight line ... cuz attaining more straight line speed is easy (basically a chip job).

I am a vehicle **** I'm afraid. Whichever one meets my needs for performance and daily use, I will run to it like a crack ho after a sure score.

The first step is to admit that you have a problem...

I kind of agreew with him.. I have loved Mitsubishi for awhile now, no matter what problems they've had, i always liked them.. not as much as Honda.. but rite underneath it was Mitsubishi..and to me..i don't care if the STi has 20 more hp.. not a big deal for me..a big deal for me is knowing mitsubishi's loyality, their commitment to thier promise.."under 30K" and bringing a WRC car to america... I give Suburu probs for bringin a full blown STi here... but they never had to work around a price differnce..making it a little easier imo... Think about if Honda said they'll bring a NSX over here for under 50k...doubt it would be nearly as good as the one right now.. same situation, same circumstances, differnt companies, one winner.....

The STI is only 2 grand over the EVO, so I don't think price is much of a factor. Mitsubishi brought over the weakest EVO in the world and then the majority of their dealers initially tacked on huge markups. Subaru is bringing over the best STI ever built for only 2 grand over the EVO, and on top of that there are a lot of dealers willing to sell for MSRP. Plus they were the first to even take the chance on a rally inspired car for the US market. So if anyone deserves brand loyalty I'd say it's Subaru because they've been the most loyal to their fans. However like I said in my first post, I do think brand loyalty is stupid. It gives the manufacturer no reason to improve their product if you'll buy it anyway.
