Oh sorry, I didn't mean to. But we kinda have the same problem, so I figured we might have the same solution to it. replacing the whole cluster might be an answer too, you know

I once installed, some overlays on my speedometer and I experienced the same problem.. Upon further inspection I found and learned that the speedometer strength is not powerful at all.. it could simply be a minor manufacturer defect where something is rubbing around the needle hole from the stock gauge. In my case the overlay was slightly touching.. I mean it was so small i would never have thought it would be affected. If you want to give it a shot.. take apart the console and look clearly if there is any obstruction.. it's fairly easy to do actually.. very few screws. Give it a shot it's worth the trouble. This does make sense also with your observation of the problem.. as you increase the speed.. the needle gets more strength and as it free's itself it gets back up to speed and correct position. Give it a try and let me know.

I dont know whay you dont let mitsu fix it instead of taking it apart yourself? If they find out you opened it up, they will void your warrenty.

Well, I'm over 36,000 miles (currently at 42K), I have a crap load of parts, that will take me a long time to swap out (some stockers are gone)... will void my warranty right away if they see everything under the hood. This way I will lose my 60K warranty

i had this problem on my evo 8 (2005) when it was new. It took the dealer a few times to try to fix it. eventually they replaced my entire gauge cluster and that did the trick The dealer should warranty it as they did on mine..

had the same problem on my evo8 (2005) at the time had like 5k on it. took it to the dealer and they ended up having to replace the gauge cluster that houses the speedo and tach etc..no probs since..it was covered under warranty
