Cool Need Opinions on Turbo Timers.

Sup everybody,

This is my first post. Just bought a 2006 Evo IX. The first thing I want to put on is a turbo timer. I'm already tired of sitting at idle going, did I drive it hard enough to need to cool it or can i just turn it off. I have been looking at the Greddy I like the built in Speedometer. Before I buy though I wanted to peoples opinions on the diff models.

my opinion is you shouldn't need one. save the 90-100 for a solid MBC. if you just drive your car like a normal person for the last 5 minutes of your trip the oil will cool down enough.

IMO you don't need a turbo timer. You know your destination before you get there; just drive the car normally the last mile or so, shut it off and walk away. That's all you need to do.

edit: ha, beat me by a minute!

The Greddy is nice. I have one. It's easy to hook up too, especially with a harness. The speedo function is kind of useless though, since you have to calibrate it while driving and your speedometer is a much more accurate anyway. I still like mine and it saves me from worrying about the same thing.

Yeah, some days I tear *ss to work and don't have time to take it slow the last mile. Thats my main reason for wanting one, that and my wife drives the car sometimes and I don't trust her to remember to take it easy the last mile and not turn it off right away. lol. I think she likes the car more than i do sometimes.

With the engine off and the extremely hot turbo not getting oil flow , the oil can coke to the turbo.( I think I said that right) Basically the oil burns onto the turbo insides and can ruin it eventually.

I've got the blitz DTT. It has a built is boost gauge. The best combo in my opinion. You really don't need a timer though. Like everyone else stated just take it easy at the end of you drive (I have not been in a situation where the last minute of my drive was in an area that I could build any boost safely). Save your money for a flash or cat delete.

I really dont think you need TT on our evos.
If you are just tooling around town (not boosting much), you can just shut off right away.
If you've been boosting a lot (driving on the highway while in boost), you can let the car run after you park for about 30sec-1min and then shut it off.

I've had about 4 turboed cars and never felt like I needed a turbo timer.
I would rather use that money on something else like a boost gauge or EGT gauge to monitor some of the parameters of the car.
Turbo timers are a waste IMO.

I do the same thing you do, but I always coast the last few miles so till my guage reads under 80. I looked at the Greddy and that was the best one I found. If you really need one get the Greddy otherwise just take it easy the last couple miles.

You can find the Greddy for 80 on sale at www.extremepsi.com

i have the blitz fatt ii turbo timer..i like it because the display unit is tiny, not like the greddy/hks style units

i have mine mounted on the dash to the left of the steering column (by the dimmers)

it works fine and has some nice features if you want to use them..installed in 10 minutes with a harness

I have one and 98% of the time it’s turned off. The only time I really use it is if I’m on the interstate for a long period of time and my destination point is right off the interstate. I'll just turn it on before I remove the key. What really gets that sucker glowing is high rpm cruising speeds, that’s when your ECU advances timing and leans fuel for that "whopping 24 mpg highway gas mileage".
