For the sever driving condition it's basic stuff like.

Change engine oil/filter
change transmission/t-case/rear diff fluid
check pad wear
rotate tires
replace air filter
replace spark plugs (this may not be necessary but I would do it @ 30k miles)
Flush brake fluid (this may not be necessary but I would do it @ 30k miles)
Flush coolant (this may not be necessary but I would do it @ 30k miles)

Inspection of:
- Timing and Drive Belts
- Brake Pads and Rotors
- Steering and Suspension Components
- CV Joints, Axles, Half Shafts, Bearings

I'd suggest the 30,000 mile coolant replacement isn't optional. The corrosion preventative chemicals in coolant become exhausted. Also, over time coolant becomes contaminated with sludge. This sludge can accumulate in the engine if not flushed out causing hot spots.

The Factory Service Manual is available on ebay for about a buy-it-now price of $10.

Back in my DSM days I replaced my accessory belts every 30,000 miles until I read on one of the boards of a guy still running the factory belts at 110,000 miles. That is maybe pushing your luck a little too far. However, the factory service manual says to inspect the accessory belt every 30,000 miles and I took from that that Mitsu expects the belt to go longer than 30,000 miles. So, while replacing the belt can't hurt, and I just did my 30,000 mile service, all I did was check the belt.

Has anyone had one of these break and if so, at what mileage?

Lets see, I bought oil for the transfer, diff and transmission, oil and filter for the engine, antifreeze and distilled water, a radiator cap and a air filter. So, for DIY - about $165.

you should replace your iridium plugs too at 30k if your stockers are still in.

at my 30k i did:

coolant
trans/diff fluids
oil
air filter

i didn't do accessory belt, spark plugs or brake fluid. spark plugs i think i will need to do soon as it's running a little rough until it's warm in the colder mornings now. the other 2 i'm holding off on.
