Failed Smog!!
Well...not actually. I passed the visual and sniff test with flying colors.
My SES light will not come on....for any reason. I failed the smog test because the light does not come on for the five or so seconds required upon start up and then turn off. I have no idea why. Anyone had this problem?
I just replaced the bulb that went to the light and still no dice. I am not a car wizzard by any means. I'm a little lost. The smog place quoted me $150 just to diagnose the problem. Sounds a bit steep.
My car is still in warranty, but only for the ECM. I have almost 72,000 miles in my 03 EVO and obviously I am SOL if it involves anything else. I have to take my car in on Monday to get looked at.
In case it comes up, I am getting my car smogged to purchase it. I originally bought it on a lease (been through many cars and didn't know this would be the end all). I am now going to buy it. Hence the smog.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Do all the other surrounding dash lights light up? I believe the oil light, and all the other little lights should light up when you cut the ignition to the "on" position. If none of them light up then I would check the fuses/relays.
Sounds like the original owner may have did something stupid to get rid of the SES light. You are going to have to trace the wiring back to the ECU to find out the problem. If you live close to me I could do it for a small fee
I'll check the shop manual and see if there are any specific fuses/relays related to only the SES light itself (doubt it).

By SES light turning on and off...On start up, it really just appears for about a second then disappears.
i am the original owner. No I never tapped the SES light for the fix it just turned off one day. No test pipe (high flow cat from VISHNU). I never messed with the wiring. It just dissappeared, as I said, somewhere around 60k miles. It was working appropriately until that time.
I have had a stage 1 Vishnu with Xede since approximately 8k miles. Never had a problem with the SES light refusing to turn on. I had the SES for the P0300 code until Mitsu replaced my transmission under warranty. Then the P0420 developed. Then it disappeared.
SES does not even light up for a millisecond.
