ebay O2 housing install

yup, thats right im doing an install on an ebay O2 housing i started at like 9:00 stopped at like 12:00, broke a 50 year old snap-no 14mm box-end wrench, broke a bolt off in my beloved 10.5 hot side, smashed my hand into sharp $#!T countless times, got pissed off a few, and im sure theres more but i just want to go to bed now sooooo..........does anybody have any sugestions on how to make my life any easier. and do i really have to take the turbo off to complete this project, and if i do should i take the whole manifold off ro just unbolt the turbo from it.

all i have to say is when this is done, it better be worth the 10whp everyone says that it makes.

Thanks in advance!!!!!!

any sugestions welcome, and we all know what im doing for the 4th of July.

PS: HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that you broke a bolt in the hotside then you will have to take at least it off.
A lot of people take the hotside off the turbo and leave the compressor in the car.

I did an O2 housing with everything still in place. All I removed was the downpipe and O2 sensor and replaced the housing. And it still didn't take me 3 hours.

I just did the install last week and the same thing happened to me. One of the bolts holding the manifold to the hotside broke and the two studs will not come out (to replace them with bolts for ease of manifold removal in the future) which eventually broke off also. I ended up having to buy a new 10.5 hotside. Knowing what I know now, I would not have done the install.

same exact thing happened to me....
i took it to a machine shop to remove the bolt, they did a great job (even scrubbed everything up) for like $20,
got replacement bolts at ace hardware,
installed and everything works great...lot cheaper than buying a new hotside

How much for the old 10.5 hotside with broken bolts in it?
I don't have an evo anymore but I would remove them, clean it up and resell it.

I gave it to a friend to see if he has better luck removing them.

I would just drain radiator, take radiator out with fan, unbolt exhaust manifold, downpipe, also there is 1 bolt behind the turbo to hold everything, disconnect coolant lines, oil line, and pull everything out.

I think its easier that way, less pain.

This last saturday i did the manifold, o2, and 10.5 hotside. It was fairly easy and not very time consuming. I left turbo on the car..well everything hooked up but the DP. I first pulled the DP, then took the nuts off the manifold to the head, then unplugged the o2 sensor from under the spark plug(s) cover, used WD-40 sprayed the bolts/studs on the manifold to the Hotside and then pulled the two bolts, then the two nuts and then my next step was to take off the heatshield. That was a little more fun... I used a pair of tin snips to cut the heatshield so i could bend it back and get it out of the way of the o2 sensor. Once all that was done wiggled the manifold off there and got it out of the way. After that pull the cotter pin off the WG acutator so you can release the arm. Then loosen the v-band clamp that holds the hotside to the center section and i had to tap on it to get it to come off. "Be carefull cause when it comes off completely the hotside and o2 housing will come off and if your not carefull you can damage the exhaust wheel on the turbo" so once its off pull it out of there..and get it back together.

TIPS:
1.) If your doing the hotside pay attention to the alignment pin/nub that sticks out on it. It will align you pefectly to install it back on the center section of the turbo.

2.) Dont rush yourself and take your time

3.) If you have a can of WD-40 Layin around just go ahead and spray all the bolts and nuts before atempting to pull everything apart.

4.) If you have an impact gun/air tools then i suggest using them.... unless you havent used them daily or fairly often.

Overall with these mods... I noticed a HUGE difference. And i definatly mean a huge difference. The power gain i noticed was from about 4,500 to redline. I had my car running pretty close to a 11.0 a/f/r before the mods and afterwards it wasnt much different. I did a little tuning @ WOT at low rpms to help with spool up. And for the ones who want to know what spool up is like... Well it definatly builds boost faster and pulls a lot harder and im even running less boost then it was before the changes cause i turned the boost controller down a little. I spike 22 psi and hold 18 psi from around 5,500 to redline.

I am going to finsh my insall on the avcr and get it to hold 24 throuhout the rpms.
