Question Is it common for Evos to idle rough with the AC on?

I'm in the market for a used Evo and today I test drove one for the first time. I noticed however that when I had the AC on the car would idle pretty roughly. It was idling around 1000 RPM but it would randomly drop down to 500 and then go back up. It almost felt like the car was about to stall. Turning off the AC stopped this.

I'm probably not going to buy this car anyway because it's at a used car dealer and modded: AEM Intake and HBC Boost controller is what I noticed, might have had more though for all I know. But I am still wondering about the idling. It was a 2003 and it also had some peeling on the wing and some serious chipping and paint fade on the front brake calipers.

Side note though, after driving an Evo for the first time I have gone from wanting one to needing an Evo. Now it's just a matter of finding the right one

The Evo's idle is effected by use of the a/c quite a bit more than most vehicles imo. I recently discovered that most of my idle blues were actually being caused by a trashed idle control motor. My best guess for you situation is that the AEM intake was added without a proper tune to compensate for the differences the maf is now seeing.

I hated having my AC on with my stock 03 turbo. Once I put the 35r on my car it actually idles nicely with the AC on now.

my car idles like a busted diesel tractor with the A/C on. If i hold the clutch pedal in it goes away, it's just how the setup is

my car used to idle a little rough when I turned the ac on. I got my car flashed and now it idles like a dream with or without the ac on.

i don't really use the AC. but most people who have cams, idle rough with the AC on. if the engine is stock, it shouldn't do that.

dealer says that's just the how the clutch reacts to the rough idle of having the compressor running, i don't know about that, i don't think a fuel injected 4 cylinder should ever sound like it has more knock than a lobbed BOSS 429, i asked about clutch adjustment and everything, they said nothing i can do. oh well, clutch is good at 21k miles and i can deal with the funny looks at stop lights
