in the market for an evo which one to get?????
hey guys im new to this forum and hopefully i will be an owner of the evo IX within the next month or so... ive been doing a lot of research and ive been hearing a lot of things that have confused me so i thought i would ask you evo gurus my questions... i already know that when i get my evo i will be heavily modifieng it...
i really wanted to get the evo ix MR but i heard that the 6 speed tranny does not hold very much power compared to the regular 5 speed and that the 5 speed would be much better since im going to be putting out a lot of power... is this true??? does it not matter anyways since im going to have to be rebuilding the tranny anyways to accomodate the ridiculous power i will be putting out in the future???
i also wanted to get the MR because i thought it was much lighter than the regular evos but on the mitsu site its actually about 20-30 pounds heavier than the regular gsr...
i also thought that the MR suspension was better than the regular evo ix's but i read somewhere that the evo MR suspension was actually softer than the gsr suspension and the MR was more daily driveable but the regular gsr handles better???
then last but not least i heard that since the new evo ix's have the mivec system that its actually better to get the evo VII's that dont have the mivec system i believe since im going to be heavily modifieng it anyways???
so basically is it worth it to get the evo IX MR since i know im going to be heavily modifieng the car??? any info would be greatly appreciated...
thanks guys

I would recommend a GSR without SSL. Thats what I went with when I got my VIII because I couldnt justify the extra $$$ for the MR or the SSL. I didnt want leather anyway and if I would upgrade the stereo, I would do it differently than Mitsu decided to do. So it came down the sunroof which again wasnt worth all that extra money and weight on my roof. Thats my opinion though. non-ssl gsr!!!

First you have to ask yourself if you plan on modding it. If so, Get a GSR without doubt, since you'll most likely be replacing the upgraded stock components with aftermarket parts anyway(shocks, gauges, etc.). If your not gonna mod it, the MR might be more fun for the street if you can justify the extra money. Most people dont think its worth it. Next ask yourself what your gonna use it for. If you plan on modding it and its NOT going to be used for track racing, get the GSR. The MR is really only good for that extra gear once you start modding it if its gonna be used for track racing(road course), thats about it.
Modded?
Yes - GSR
No - MR?(if you want it for the streets)
Road Course?
Yes - MR
No - GSR
Hope this helps.

oh i also forgot to mention i noticed on a lot of the evo vendors sites that there are a lot more parts for the evo 8 than the evo 9... what are the differences in the parts??? i thought the parts would be the same... do the same turbo kits for the evo 8 fit the evo 9???

ABS in an EVO???!!!! If you want to lose brake feel and give up some control of your vehicle be my guest.... RS all the way
The MR does weigh a few pounds more but those pounds are lower for a better center of gravity. Most importantly the roof is much lighter (- 4kg) and that improves stability to a great extent. Better BBS wheels, F2 and F3 package standard. I also found the 6-speed to be more positive and just more precise and better handling vs the 5.
I dont plan to go beyond a 50hp increase over stock though. I do plan to pay more attention to getting the weight down instead.
Watch the Best Motoring comparo of the GSR and MR. You will know the difference, trust me. Both the STi, the GSR and an R34 Skyline are almost a second slower and thats on a very short track. The most interesting aspect is to see what happens to the cars during cornering - watch the video and you will understand: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...q=evolution+mr
