First oil change

Hi guys. well i just bought my brand new EVO IX one week ago. I have been driving it hard as hell since day one. I am at 750 miles right now. Anyways i was wondering when I should do my first oil change, considering the hard break in. Any help would be great. thanks a lot

How hard have you been driving? You know there is a break in period for a new evo.

I did my first oil change today, 4,700 miles.

oh boy... you are gonna get flamed for the break in, flamed for asking this question... whether you break it in soft or hard, now would be a great time to change your oil.....

different people have different ideas about break in... the manual says to be easy on it, some people i've heard say drive it hard to get all the burrs off really well... and change it... either way, change it now

the reason i asked is because i read that mitsu uses special additive in their oil and i read that it is bad to change the oil too soon...but since i broke it in so damn hard i figured its necessary to change it sooner....right?

its a regular oil change. But i think you still did a bad thing by breaking it in hard.

Ordinarily this might be a dumb question but considering the way you broke your car in I am going to ask it. You do know that you WILL ruin your engine if you put just regular motor oil in right?

I guess your Evo IX can be the test rat for that question. Change your oil now. My '03 was changed with 1000miles on it. Broken in properly. Don't worry about your break in anymore, it's too late. Just have fun.

Keep in mind than the engine isn't the only thing that breaks in. In an AWD car, there are a lot of other components to consider. FWIW, I broke in mine for ~700 miles - a little longer than the factory recommended 600 miles - and changed my oil at ~950 miles.

Actually a hard break in is bad when using fully synthetic motor oil. Frictional heat from piston rings can super heat and glaze your cylinder walls keeping your rings from fully seating properly.Thats just 1 reason of many why its good to stick to the break-in period on our cars.

i've always heard that hard break in leads to excessive oil consumption in the evo. i did 600 miles of easy driving, maybe 1 psi boost, no higher than 4K rpm, and i never have to add oil between 3K mile oil changes.
