Boost Leaking

Newbie question asked by a newbie. How can i do a boost pressure test. I think i might be leaking a little bit, under part throttle, before you hear the turbo spool up, i can hear a little whining noise, at first i thought it was the turbo but it has a different sound to it. Thanks for your time all.

newbie told to search under boost leak test by evolving member. there are several threads on this subject. i suggest everyone that hasn't done a test do one because even when you don't think you have a leak, sometimes you do. i just did my first test and found a torn vacuum line and some loose clamps here and there. needless to say, the car runs much better now.

I wouldn't be surprised if you had a boost leak, if not several, but I WOULD be surprised if a boost leak had anything to do with a part-throttle, pre-boost whining noise. A boost leak doesn't whine.

A little soapy water in a spray bottle makes it a lot easier to find the smaller leaks.

Soapy water in a spray bottle is a must.
