Not only does every Evo do this, but just about every DSM too. Many other domestic and import cars as well. Boo hoo. If you have an aftermarket clutch alot of times you will get "clutch chatter" where the springs on the disc (or other parts) make noise. You could always drop the tranny, buy a new TOB, grease everything up properly, and bolt everything back together, but even this is still not a garauntee that it will go away. If it is REALLY loud I would be concerned (could possible destroy your flywheel, disc, pressure plate, or worse).

It really is just a crap shoot. If you did not properly grease on the throw out bearing or the fingers on the pressure plate, you will get noise. Sometimes it is not the throw out bearing, it is the disc itself making the noise.
he said rattle goes away when clutch is pressed. it is the inputshaft bearing.not throw out bearing.the ac makes it louder due to more load on engine. if you listen when ac is off, you can hear rattle; just not as loud. are most of evo members, 16-23 years old. the reason why i ask is that when service dept tells you normal, you accept it. you should hear no noises from transmission on any car. it is not an ac noise; it is a tranny problem. call an independent tranny shop, and they will tell you the same thing. for the last time, tob makes noise when clutch is disengaged; that means when you press clutch to floor, not the other way around, like everyone thinks.

Thanks for the info. I have the same noise on my Lancer. I thought it was the throw out bearing. So I replace it along with a new clutch and lightweight flywheel. I looked at the stock throw out bearing and it look trashed after 40,000 miles and the stock clutch and flywheel, although worn down a little, were in good shape. I still have the same noise after having everything replaced. Looks like I am taking it back to the shop and have them check the input shaft bearing.
I have heard this same noise in F-bodies (Camaro and Firebird) C5 Vettes and 350Z's/G35's.
I hear a lot of people say installing a TBE eliminates the noise. How/Why is this? Does it just raise your idle speed a little, counteracting the effect of the A/C?

This is Arizona what do you need A/C for? 475 works great
