Anger! Will Robinson!

I talked with my cousin a couple of weeks ago, he's go's to UTI which is basicly a motorcycle school, but thats not important ....
what is important is what he told me about gas stations.
He says that I should only get gas from stations that have 3 different lines per a station one for 87, one for 91, and one for 93. He says that if like most stations use only 1 pump then when I pay for 93 I'm getting almost 3 gallions of whatever the last person bought.
IS THIS TRUE?

that their is still 87 or 91 in the lines..... F king bastards!

I dought there's 3 gallons in the line but there is probably a little left over between the pump and the nozzle from the the last guy.

Someone was talking about this on here a couple days ago. I'm not certain if that is true but it does make sense. I don't think it's "gallons" but more drips...

I think he said the line is long enough to have up to in some cases almost 3 gallons

3 gallons are bit exaggerated. you will get some. It will be less than a gallon.

Well, every pump I've been to has the previous sale info listed on the display. If you see lower octane don't use it. I don't think it would be 3 gallons. Have you ever seen those pumps dismantled? 3-1 is in the "box" (from what I've seen). That line isn't holding 3 gallons.

It depends how long the line is that goes to the tank switchover valve. It could be a gallon more/less since the tanks go down about 8-10 feet or so. So if I'm tuned for 94, even a small amount of any other octane will drop the octane level slightly. This could potentially spell distaster for highly tuned cars on very hot days and hard driving. I never really thought about until now.

Think about it tho... how fast gas is pumped out 3 gallons takes like 2 second for a pump, and the pump likes are like 2 inchs thick... and around 6 feet long.

3 Gallons!?!? No way. It's more like the first 1/4 gallon that is what was left in the hose, if that.

I don't know about you, but it takes much more than 10 seconds at the pump to fill 15 gallons.

Yes, but you still have the previous sale info to guide you. You can drive to a different pump/station. If you're as **** about your car as I am then there's your answer.

PS Manchester is one of my favorite cities. So much nicer to fly into their aiport than Logan.

Well, the hose is 2"+ in diameter plus 6ft. in length plus what goes to the switching valve(?)which you can't see. Who knows. It would be interesting to find this out. There could be some issues that the stations need to address. I was wondering why knock is a little higher when someone gets 87 before me when I do a half tank fill. I think I will test this theory abit further. LOL
