another wing survival! Now I think that evo wings will be redily available now due to alot of them being wrecked recently...lol. but that really sucks about your evo man. Looks like a total loss to me, but I'm not an adjuster.

my back end went out before....and i hopped a curb but then right after i came to evom to seek answers why the back end goes out and though my search its becasue when you are into the turn and you brake a little it transfers weight and the back end goes out....Mine was on a completly dry surface and on a perfectly paved road. To correct the tailwhip i heard that you must maintain throttle and the front wheels should pull the car straight again.

Yes. With AWD, accelerating transfers weight to the rear, giving the rear more grip. it also powers the fronts, which pull the front end in the direction you're steering. You're exactly right.

You can initiate a slide by turning and cracking open the throttle (powerslide) or by simply lifting the throttle. If you're not paying attention or don't expect it, you could wind up in a messy situation.

This is what happens when you mix horsepower with too little driving experience. A situation that probably could have been saved if the driver would have had the necessary skills required to handle a high performance vehicle. Anyone can drive in a straight line but most of the time on the street when the rear starts to slide, a person's immediate reaction is to lift the throttle......

Sorry about your car but you learned a valuable lesson. You cant drive fast with skill yet, keep practicing. Try go-karts....you can learn a lot.

See I kind of dissagree there. First of all, very sorry man, hope everything works out. The accident had little to nothing to do with the driver "KNowing" how to drive. What it was was BALD TIRES on wet roads. Hate to say it but that's just asking for a big problem somewhere along the lines.

I don't care how good of a driver you are, if your equipment sucks and fails, nothing is going to save you. Going around a turn, 40+mph, hydro-planing bald rear tires = an accident.

could be the case....I still think that someone who has practice with a car getting loose has a better chance of saving it. I've spun my car, but it was in the dirt. On the street when it has happened (the rare occasion we get rain in the desert) I have yet to lose it. Hey...its just my opinion. Nothing else. Blame it on what you want. I have auto-x on my stock advans on the minimum wear bars on the rear and have yet to find it lacking in traction. I understand water may have been in the mix. But for this guy to bounce off of bothe sides of the car means that traction was available as he must have been swinging the wheel left and right in an attempt to gain control. A car does just not go bouncing off trees like it is made of rubber. You hit one side and usually stop, not keep moving, especially at 40mph. Brushing against something and keeping moving is different. But his damage indicates slamming into the trees while moving. Doesnt matter what I think anyways.

I am still sorry he damaged his car. That does suck.

Some of you guys are just d$#@s. I love it how people who own 300+whp cars tell others to slow down. They act like they've never driven fast or taken a turn on the edge. Accidents happen to the best of us. It's unfortunate, but at least nobody got hurt badly. In the end though, the car can be replaced and we can learn from mistakes. People should just think before posting a stupid comment like, "good job, now insurance is going to rise for us." And actually by the way, our insurance was increased because our car is the #2 most stolen car. Not just because of accidents. Good luck to you. Just be patient and everything will be okay.

It sucks that it happened, and I am glad no one got hurt....but you guys crashing the Evos need to invest in driving school.

I really think it should be a requirement if you buy this car or ANY performance car.

I am not saying I am the best driver.....but I got my car COMPLETELY sideways coming off a ramp on the highway when I hit black ice last winter. I mananged to correct and continue on my way without wrecking the car.

Fortunately, a little driving knowledge goes a long way.

Stay safe out there.

To the OP, do check the outer rear for punctures. A very similar thing happened to me a long time ago in a Legacy of all things and I ended up falling off a bridge. It was raining and it just went pear-shaped midcorner - I was doing something like 45 IIRC. Turned out that I had picked up a puncture on the outer rear wheel a while back and since it was mainly straights and raining and so on, I didn't really know about it till I turned the corner which was too late. It all came to a proper investigation 'cos I clipped another vehicle and he barriered (extremely slight damage but he was a lawyer!!!) and it was finally called an accident and I wasn't at fault or something like that - rather than getting reckless driving and crap.

Anyway, sucks whatever happened. Hope it all works out okay....

Tureno-AE86 - I think you brought up a rather valid point. Since I have both, my humble opinion is that the evo suspension and specially its tyres make for a very all-or-nothing grip level. We all know the stock advans are feeble in the wet but awesome in the dry but compared to the pirelli's on my Sti, they grip more but break off a lot more suddenly. If you're used to it, they work just fine but otherwise it's a dangerous trait. It's almost as if it will take heaps of lateral g's but once it gets to a maximum it just packs up and throws it all at you. My current Re01-R's and the mentioned Pirellis are a lot more gentle. Lower profiled tyres tend to amplify this behaviour also.
