help a n00b out
Hey guys my name is jeff and i just got a 03 evo 8. i know some info on turbos and tuning but not on evos. my last car was a 337whp audi a4. that was not enough power for me however. so i sold the a4 and got a much more modder friendly evo. having talked to a few local shops in denver they recomended i go with the atp turbo kit with the gt3540r turbo and using utec to tune it. with rc750cc injectors? the mods on the car now are hks 2.5" dp that will be replaced with the one in the kit, stock cat, and hks 30th anaversary cat back exhaust. Arc intake, greddy bov, and samco ic piping. i know there are still some things that will be needed to complete the kit but does it sound like im going down the righ road or should i be pointed in a different direction. thanks for the help. o ya i probably spelled alot of words wrong my bad

isnt the hks catback 3" or am i wrong. ya i forgot about the cams. is utec the best way for tuning or is there a system that would work better. also i live in colorado at 5500 feet and i know a gt35 will lag like crazy up here but most of the year will be in texas at sea level so the software would have to beable to be set for 2 altitudes is this possibel or will i just have to tune it ever time i go home and back to college?
you'll need alot more than that, i wouldnt go with such a big turbo as a first big mod, especially not on a 2 litre engine, most people would say getta stroker kit to 2.3 litre for that turbo.

but wont that take longer for teh rpms to climb if i storke the motor, if i keep it a 2L the can i just make the red line at 8.5k and let it pull tell then?
we need to talk offline. I need to know what shops are telling you to do an atp gt35 and a utec. I don't think I could come up with a worse combination. do not go that route and make sure we get together before you do anything. also. don't go back to any shop who gave you that advice.

Yeah, IM me tonight when you get home.
Beyond just the whole ATP turbo and UTEC problem, you also have the whole revving theory completely backwards. A 2.0 will allow you to rev much higher, yes, but it will get there much more slowly, especially here at extreme altitude. A GT35 is already very laggy, then the ATP version is even LAGGIER, then when you add this altitude, you'd have nothing but a lag machine. A stroker helps a lot with torque and spoolup - I would not run that turbo up here without a stroker unless it was a dedicated drag car, and if it was a dedicated drag car, I wouldn't get the ATP anyway.

so what turbo would you recomend? most of the year im in texas for school. i would like to have over 450whp that is reliable if there is such a thing. i know the more you do to youir car the more that will break but is there some thing that is very powerfull and reliable or is that just impossible?
