What is the stock boost of an Evo7?
Why do I keep hearing about 1.4 bar? Is this the maximum boost for the Evo?

And I also don't understand how changing intake and exhaust alone automatically ups the boost. Anyone care to explain?

Thanks

Karl <--- new to Turbo land.

Upgrading the intake and exhaust doesn't increase the boost. What those mods can do is increase hp a little and decrease boost lag.

1 bar=14.5 psi, 1.4 bar=20psi. Thats a big increase

wow

an evolution is good the way it is stock....why risk it getting worse by upping the boost too high and stuff? id understand a regular lancer because its pretty slow....but...evo7 is already defying the laws of physics...........

The stock VII is nice but as with any of the other other stock Evo's, after a while you get used to it and they feel slow so you have to mod them up. Trust me if you got one you would know exactly what I mean! Besides where I live I have to deal with GTR's, RX-7's, Supra's, Silvia's etc....everytime I go out, so you have to be fast if you want to hang around. In the states you have to deal with the idiot with the 89' rusted out prelude that has 1000 stickers that holds it together, with a wing bigger than the car itself, and a exhaust that makes it sound like a chainsaw. (I actually saw this the last time I went home and this guy really thought his car was the ****!) Boy did TF&TF have a bad impact on the american society. You don't see that in Japan. People actually have bad *** cars here and they don't half *** anything either.

evocrazy: couldn't have said it better myself. I can see why my friend in Japan keeps asking, "you don't want to die in america do you?"

Typical american rice. And yes this is a hatchback. And yes that atrocity is on the roof. This is the type of cars I will be racing in my area, it's a local car.

JulioEVO,

You should post info and pics about your Integra under "Members Rides". Your car sound very interesting and I would like to see what kinds of mods you've done.

How about those trucks that have about what 3 billion light bulbs and the traditional japanese art? LOL I haven't any trucks here in the states that could match those guys there. I lived in JP for about 8 years and yes they do drive modded cars that do much "advertising".

Evo_Dan:

Will search some of the pics and scan them.

Just to name you a few:

Haltech F9a Computer
Electromotive Ignition
Magnacore Plug Wires
JE Forged Pistons
Crower Conrods
ARP Studs
Titanium Valves
Blockguard - Ported - Balanced - Etc
Garret TO3-TO4 Hybrid Turbo (Ball Bearing GT Series)
Custom Manifold (Header Type)
JUN Sprockets
Huge Front Mount Intercooler
Coilovers

Boost set at 21psi - Stock Tranny - Stock Cams - Pump Gas - Stock interior (leather)

My tunner actually states we can hit 11.4 with race gas, and lower with a few other mods. So far the car has not break anything at all. Just change oil, filter...and let's go. This project has yield me lots of fun, let's see what the Evo can bring!

I actually meant that they don't advertise much.

I lived around the Tokyo area. Dad was in the AF, yakota and, a couple of other bases that closed. Are you in the armed services? I kinda-sorta know an AF officer gal who was in Okinawa.

You have obviously never driven a turbo car.. For example: my 3000GT VR-4 has a stock boost of around 12psi. By just upping the boost to 15psi, you can tell a HUGE difference. Add a downpipe, gut the catalytic converters, add an open air intake, and get a 3" exhaust. That will free up some horsepower as well as decrease turbo spool time from the reduction of backpressure.

The 4g63 engine is an incredible engine for what it does. It can take abuse and a lot of high boost. Add some bigger injectors, a better fuel pump, and upgrade the turbo, and the car will scream (you will also need to add a fuel controller as well).

I read in Japanese Performance Magazine( a brittish publication) that the EVO's stock fuel system can support 400hp. So really a piggy back fuel controller should be sufficient to handle the gas. Werrender makes an EVO 340hp upgrade in the UK where they added an Apex'i fuel controller and XS engineering blow off valve with boost controller set to 20 psi to achieve 340 Hp. This is some real cheap HP.

400hp is a somewhat broad statement. 400hp to the ground or to the engine? Given a 25%+ driveline loss, 400 *engine* hp = about 300awhp (to the ground). However, 400awhp (to the ground) would be rather incredible for such a light car.

Yeah, I have no clue what size injectors are in the EVO VII. The older eclipse turbos came with 450cc injectors. So I figure at least that. If you really start making the power, you will want to go with at least 550cc and possibly 720cc (or 660cc) sizes. You can run an Apexi S-AFC on the 550s I do believe... Just depends on the size turbo that you are running, how ample your cooling is (intercooler efficiency, etc), and what boost you want to run on what octane...

How much Hp do you want to make? I am satisfied with low 12 second 1/4 mile times. I don't think it will take much to acheive that.

I know on my old 300z TT this single greatest thing I did to release power on it was to gut the 4 cats. At the time before I did that I had 316hp/370tq to the ground with a profec at 14 psi, greddy exhaust, Stillen pop charger, and Jim wolf ECU. When I gutted the cats the car ran so much better it was just unbeilevable. I wish I would have dynoed the car again but I never did.

EJ

It's going to take some work, but not TOO much. Dunno what size turbo the US Spec EVO will have. However, I am shooting for trap speed and not 1/4 speed. My VR-4 does well enough in the 1/4... I will also be curious to see how the EVO tranny holds up.

Hey everyone if you guys really want to know how to up your evo efficiently and what you need you could get it up to about 340 hp and even 380 hp with new cams go to the site www.warrender.co.uk and look at the wrc tuned evo VII thats 340 hp look at the specs and it says what they added.
