High pressure radiator caps ??
Does anyone know the difference between high pressure radiator caps. The have the 1.3 and the 1.8 and i am trying to upgrade but don't know the difference between the two. Anyone know why someone would get the 1.3 instead of the 1.8 ? Anyone with any experiences or bad stories (or even good to share) ?
The higher pressure caps raise the boiling point (temperature) of the cooling fluid. Only potential downfall is bursting an old hose, not something I would worry about with a newer car. Also a pretty useless mod unless the car will see track time.
you can balloon a radiator with a high pressure cap- i've seen it done with a ~20 psi cap. No way I'd use a 1.8. A high pressure cap is just a band aid for the problem- if you even have one. If you are not overheating don't use a cap with a higher rating- higher pressure should not be considered a necessary "upgrade". With a 14 psi cap and 50/50 mix antifreeze-water the boiling point is ~265F IIRC.

Thanks guys i appreciate the input. But another question i have is with increased power you obviously have increased temperatures, at what level does the temps actually start to rise (hp level that is) ?
