Removed Heatshield.

Does the OEM heatshield really matter? I had to take it off to probe an EGT guage.

Drill a hole in it and put it back on.

the heat shield does serve a purpose. it will block heat from the hood which may potentially cause things such as bubbling paint. however, if you look at the tubular turbo headers, or manifolds if you call them that, they are not bubbling paint.

if you drive your car in the rain/snow you may not get this directly onto the manifold, or the probe itself. I would assume the probe is sealed. i don't think you should have any problems. just a little more rust. not like it doesnt already have it from the factory though....

Oh yeah, it was probed by a trained mechanic. He used loctite and everything. He said the heatshield didn't really matter too much.

Depends on who u ask. I know my hood get consideribly hotter with no heat shield then with. I did a lil testing on a heat shield for my tubular exh mani to check and see.......

Yes it helps.. btw i have seen stock evo's exhaust manifolds glowing after only 3 highspeed runs from 30-115 or so. With out that heat sheild... i cant imagine how much heat your engine bay will absorb.

Mitsubishi doesnt spend money on parts that arent necessary. If it were my car I would put it back on.

/\ agreed. dont be cheap. just drill a hole and put it back on. remember a turbo need all the heat retained for the spool/velocity, etc.

The heatshield helps to prevent the cooking of things like the cam sensor.
In time the connectors etc get brittle from excess heat.
