Hey, that's actually not a bad idea. Anybody down for a group buy? I have the greddy counter weight as well and it gets extremely HOT. I currently just put a sock over it, but im not liking that idea or the looks people give me car when they see a sock on my shifter...

this topic has been covered 5304939024093842304 times... put some clothing over it, use your brain. No it doesn't have a magical switch to cool it off

mkay.... I think what the OP is saying is that he doesn't think his is getting hot from the sun alone, so covering it up might not work - or perhaps make it worse as heat transmitted from the tranny (if it does come from there) cannot dissipate from the knob.

in any case, there are several people who make non-metalic shift knobs for the evo. Momo, Ralliart and I think blitz plus a few others.

since al is so good at conducting heat it is likely to cool down quite quickly if you a.)turn the fan on and point it towars the shifter knob b.)keep a small bottle of water in the car and wet it a little(?)

That's all I can think of for now. It's just part of having an aluminium shift knob, so you'll just have to live with it.

And this one goes out to my man FJF....

And before you PM me for where you can get one, it's made my Simoni racing....

The heat can't be coming from the tranny. It is cable connected to the tranny so there is no way the heat can travel through the cables. If there is that much heated being created from the drivetrain to the rear wheels or exhaust, there is a bigger problem that a hot shift knob.

Plus, it doesn't get hotter as you drive and the tranny heats up. Also, I've parked on the grass on hot days and the knob still gets hot.

1. Shut knobs do indeed get hot and the heat's impact can be minimized by using a shifting technique geared to limit the contact between one's hand and the knob.

2. The "driving for dummies book" you refer to is Bob Bondurant on High Performance Driving:

Why is it so hard to understand that some people don't enjoy touching burning hot pieces of metal, even for a short time.

I use the same technique as you, and I ****ing hate burning the **** out of my hand but I'm too lazy to go out of my way to cool down the knob. If you don't make contact, the knob stays hot... Why is it so hard for you to understand that maybe some people don't feel like roasting themselves with each shift????

I'd do a group buy on one, as long as they look good

Given the text you replied to, I fail to see the source of your indignation. Personally, I'm comforted by the fact that you don't actually own an Evo or any other motor vehicle, AFAIK.

I do own a vehicle, but not in Japan.

The point was you weren't contributing anything.

BTW When did Evo owners become so elitist anyway? We're talking about shift knobs and I get slammed for not owning an Evo... It's not even the first time. A shift knob is a shift knob. It doesn't matter if it's on an Evo or a crx, they get hot and people are trying to find solutions.

And I list my car right under my name, did you miss it or something??
