Blazing shift knob . . . OF DOOM!

So, when I get to work on a sunny day, I'll park my car and install the windshield sun screens, and if it's not supposed to rain, I'll crack the windows about an inch all the way around (and yes, the car is tinted). Here's what happens: even though I'll park my car so that direct sunlight cannot hit the shifter on my MR at any time, whenever I get back in, the shift knob is HOTTER THAN 9 YARDS OF HELL!

I've checked the light angles --- even covered the blasted thing --- it's almost as if the trapped heat in the transmission tunnel eventually consolidates in the aluminum 6 speed shift knob. Even though the temperature around here has been unusually hot (between 90 and 100), I'm wondering how to combat this.

Does anyone else experience this? I mean, for the first 5 minutes or so of my drive in the evening, it's like playing "Hot Potato on a Stick" --- for lack of a better term.

I have the all leather baseball, but I feel your pain. My old car had a metal shift knob that would do the same thing back when I was in high school.

Buy a leather knob or leave a sock in the car to cover up the shifter.

Yea real common. I have the same thing with mine. I remember when the IS300 first introduced the metal shift knob into factory cars and I got one I burned my hand pretty bad once. Ever since that day Ive known better then to touch the knob right away. So I grab a couple tissues until it cools down.

shifting faster = less contact with the metal knob. j/k. I covered mine with a hand towel whenever i park the car under direct sunlight.

I have the Greddy counter weight shift knob. I have found even if I cover it or take it off an put it in the glove compartment, it still gets hotter than hell. I take it off and bring it inside with me everyday. I started to do that after my leg touched the shift knob and left a little red mark on my leg.
