EVO top end

Well, I was coming home late tonight and was getting frustrated with having to go around slow traffic on the fastlane. I was anxious to get home before 11pm. A lifted truck came out of nowhere and just started to annoy me. So I decided to pull ahead of him and he did the same. We came up to a new Mustang GT covertible, which we sandwiched and I guess he was feeling a little peckish himself. He floored it and I did the same. I didn't bother down shifting since I was already at about 90mph and about 4K rpm on the fifth. I caught up to the Mustang and pulled about 5-6 car lengths ahead of him. He kept coming and I kept my foot stomped on the gas pedal. We were coming up to a moderate climb on the freeway and my EVO still pulled up to 140+mph, and the needle was still slowly climbing. At this point the mustang was barely hanging on about 10-15 car lengths behind. We had gone about 1/2 mile and I figured that I made my point and backed off. I guess we were coming up to the Mustang driver's exit anyway and he made a break for it. I think I raced this same guy before in my VR6 GTI and lost to him on that very same run.

Just before this happend, I was thinking to myself about how low the fifth gear felt and about the real top speed. After that run I am convinced the EVO could do 155+mph easily on level ground. I am mad at myself for not looking at the rpm. My EVO is stock. The only difference is that even though I live in Southern CA, I found a couple of 76 stations that carry 100 octane racing fuel at the pump and was running a 93+ octane mix.

Anyway, I don't do top speed runs that often and tend to be a little more conservative with my daily driving compared to my college days a few years ago. I guess being a new EVO owner went to my head. I should be a little more careful. And to anyone responding to this, please no preaching.

I think you would have just about been approaching some sort of limiter, either fuel, or RPM at over 155.. I think 160 or so is the theoretical maximum that the car goes.. Why is it when you do actually get to do something that stupid, it never occurs to us to see exactly how fast we're going.. and yes, it was a very stupid thing to do, cuz I found myself doing stupid things like that on a service road recently.

Sanjaya1, where in SoCal have you found a 100 octane? Are you south of LA or in LA? I know of some in LA but I'm in San Diego and can't find any.

Go to www.76.com and use their locator and you should hopefully be able to locate some stations that have 100 octane around where u live.

Wow, that's a lot more places than I found on the 76 website. I don't think all those places have 100 octane at the pump. I live in La Verne and I have asked the one you have listed on there for La Verne. They are right by the Pomona drag strip, and they sale all sorts of racing fuel in 10 gallon drums. When you do a search on the 76 website with racing fuel as the only search criteria, I think they will only list the ones that have the 100 octane at the pump. I know the two I have visited (one in West Covina, the other in Newport Beach) have 100 octane at the pump.

I can't tell if there is a difference in performance, but I guess I'll keep mixing it since I only pump about 3 gallons worth to get 93 octane.

Stupid question...
If a facility has race gas, can I just fill my tank or???
Should I mix it with 93 RON or ??
Let me know, as I don't mind putting this stuff in my tank as I have a gas allowance...

Oh yeah, will it be bad for the car???
