Speeding tickets suck... I really believe that around here they use them for revenue. They have suburban roads without sidewalks, intersections, schools or anything... You forget to pay attention for a minute and you got yourself a ticket.
I got picked out of the end of a line of cars doing the same speed (55 in a 45) and later I got a 55 in a 35 (the cop claimed). He supposedly clocked me between turning right off a stop sign within about 200 feet
Both times I was just not paying enough attention. Really those rural roads are perfect for the cops and their handlers to put those stupid speed limits where 55 would be just fine. Again, I think it's all about revenue.... If people started all driving super carefully and did nothing wrong, some municipalities would go out of business. I was at a big county court house the other day and I saw a line that was longer that the ticket lines for a Rolling Stones concert winding it's way to pay fines. The average fine was about $150 !! I calculate their revenue in just that place is probably $50K or more per day!!!! That's probably $10 or more million per year!! Does anybody think this is chump change??

I know that everyone always claims innocence when they get a ticket or trashes the cop that cited them. I WAS speeding and deserved a ticket, but I WAS doing 90 and 105 (he atually wrote "105+" on the ticket) is rediculous. The worst part about it was that he didn't have radar. He said that his speedometer was reading 102mph and I was "pulling away" from him which, if it wasn't utter crap, is conceivable because he was coming from an onramp, and HAD to go 100+ to catch up to me doing 90. I'll go to court and if he shows I'll try to get him to admit that he used his speedo to judge my speed which is not technically legal. I'm not trashing the cop at all, but he was asking some irrelevant questions like "what's the top speed of your car", and the like. He also asked me if I was paying attention to my speedo or to "all the cars you were cutting off". Funny, I was in the same lane with no traffic ahead of me for at least 10 miles before he pulled me over. I think it was more that I have a yellow evo and no plates (haven't come in yet). I also think that he was pushing for the 40+ over limit tier, which I'm sure is a cuttoff point of some sort. They'll probably try to suspend my license...we'll see. Moral: just don't drive fast on public streets/highways. I feel like a chump.

I would have said 90 mph!

I have most of you guys beat so far. About 13 years ago I was pulled over hitting 85 in a 30 mph zone, racing an identical car to mine. To make matters worse I also went through a red light. After making the officer laugh by telling him the truth of why I was going so fast he let me go. I didn't even get a warning. That is one night I will never forget in my life and one very cool officer.

that's the plan nightrider. I usually take full responsibility for my actions, and even though everytime one gets a citation they have a 50% chance that the officer won't even show up at court, I usually just pay it and get on with traffic school. I look t it as the ethically sound thing to do. Truth is, I deserved a ticket in this case, but the officer Waaaaaayyyy inflated my speed, and for some reason I feel that it was deliberate, so I'll step to the plate for this one.

If he had a video camera in his car which records the cruisers speed also......I think you may lose

oh how undisciplined...

immediately after picking up my EVO, i got pulled over by a cop for not having my license plates... i laughed and pointed to the yellow piece of paper... later that night, i got pulled over for having "blue headlights"... again, i laughed as i told him it was stock!

and by the way??? people wanna me because i have so much power, yet i drive oh so slow!!! speed limit, babee! maybe keeping up with traffic, depending on how many chicks are in the lane next to me... hahaha

OA,

I am a lifetime member. If you take look they offer ticket defense kits for all 50 states. It is a great organization.

In my 30 years of driving. (I can't believe I said that) I have had my share of run ins with the heat. In fact even running away from them which now I think was really stupid.

To minimize exposure look around you. If you are the only one on the road you can't go by the other cars around you because there are none and you must be very careful. Watch cars way ahead if they appear to be slowing down for no reason you KNOW what the reason is. If those traveling in the other direction flash their lights use caution there is probably a revenue agent ahead.

ALWAYS plead not guilty. Make the system work for their money and you can save some in the process. It is very hard to prove speed if they did not use radar. They must follow you for a certain length of time and you must always be in view. Remember the fine is one thing but the insurance surcharge comes every year and could be very expensive to say the least. Take the time to fight every ticket believe me it is worth it.

I once had a 96 in a 55 pleaded down to 69 in a 55 with radar. I was just so thrilled I accepted it even though it was possible that I could have got out of the entire ticket because the radar operator was not at court. You have a right to have all of your accusers in court. Always plead not guilty. Very important so I said it again.

Sorry for the ramble....

You should fight all tickets whether you deserve them or not.

For some people, the time it takes to fight the ticket costs a lot more than just paying the fine and resulting insurance hikes. Cops know this and give tickets because they know these days you can get out of most of them.

The Evo8 seems to cruise best (on the highway) right at 75 MPH, that's 10 over in my state. In my Rabbit I cruise by cops constantly 10 over... when in my Evo it's a different story.

Such an irony when a car that is much safer at higher speeds gets scrutinized over lesser cars.
