Lancer Trunk lid on EVO - will it fit?

Simple question. I recall reading somewhere that the only thing that is the same between a regular lancer and the EVO is the trunk lid. Is this true?

Can you simply take a lancer trunk lid and put it on the EVO and vice-versa? Or will there be fitment issues?

Just wondering out of curiosity....

So... anyone actually verify this yet?
How about part numbers? Is the EVO trunk part number the same as the Lancer trunk part number?
No one has access to a lancer trunk lid and an EVO to actually try doing the swap?

from what I've heard the trunk lid is the only body part shared between the Lancer and Lancer EVO

in shape they are similar.

the trunk lid of the evo is far more stiffer then that of the regular Lancers. The Evo's have extra reinforced body panels and chassis due to its rally heritage so... you would be able to use a front door off of a lancer but it wont be as strong as an evo door would be and the same goes with the trunks.

If the trunk is the same as the VII then I wouldn't be so sure. If you remember tightlancer's custom tails, he had to modify his trunk to put Evo VII tails on the US Lancer.

why the trunk? i thought the modification would have to include the rear 1/4 (fender) area.

the evo7 tails are alot longer then the lancer tails unless he flared his rear fenders out to fit the evo tails on he'd have to modify the trunk to fit them. I'm going to need to see pictures to be sure what kind of modification he needed to do...but from my research and measurements the evo7 tails should fit if you modify the rear fenders to fit the evo tails.

neat discussions... but is there one one with actual facts on this?

I thought there were a people on this forum that had an OZ and an EVO. If I recall correctly, the trunk is held on by only 2 bolts on each side, no? Could someone just try the swap in their driveway to see if it actually fits?

The fact that the EVO trunk has supposedly more reinforements than a regular lancer trunk does not matter to me. I just want to know if a regular lancer trunk is a direct bolt-on fit on the the EVO (structural quality is not important in my case here). I just want to know if the holes align and that everything is flush and looks like it came from the factory.

I'd do the test myself, take a picture and put the cars back the way they were, but I don't have access to both cars.

Thanks again guys... this forum is great!

try to get a hold of Obsoleteasian if im not mistaken he still has his OZ maybe he'd be willing to check for you.

EDIT: Sorry Hobie i didnt realize you put a link to the guys profile. I'm looking at the image right now but i dont see the evo7 tails on his car? from what i see it looks like the trunks off of the HK Lancers it has a rounder and narrower bottom and the tail lights are regular altezza type Cedia tails since they come to a point on the side [just like our lancers] unlike the evo7 tails where the side/fender portion of the taillights is squared off with two corners.

here's a rear shot of the evo7 trunk. im in a bit of a rush right now but i would go and find a rear shot of the Lancer as well as a HK Lancer rear shot so we can compare...but if you look at "tightlancers" rear shot you can see that he has a different trunk which i believe came off of a HK/Singapore Lancer it is alot narrower at the bottom. I just went out side to look at my trunk and we have a wider trunk lid at the bottom.

We are getting closer to an answer, but not there yet. 2 volunteers are needed to take some simple measurments using a tape measure.

Bottom width: Regular Lancer | EVO
Top Width: Regular Lancer | EVO
Height: Regular Lancer | EVO

where bottom width is the width of trunk lid along the rear bumper, the top width is the width of trunk along the top edge (ie just under the spoiler) and height is the height of the vertical part of the trunk lit at the mid point of the car (ie, right through the mitsu badge.

I'd provide some of the measurments but I have neither a Lancer or an EVO at this time.
