cant rely on aftermarket lug nuts?

i bought these lug nuts off ebay and when i took my car to the shop today the mechanic told me that these lug nuts isnt reliable. he said it wont hold the wheel tight no matter how tight u tighten them, he said it will come off if i keep driving with them on. the lug nuts are really slim compare to the ones i had on b4..he said something about the side of the lug nuts should push against the wheel so it can secure the wheel..is this true or not?

link to the lug nuts i bought

do you have stock wheels? If you do I don't think those will work. you need the acorn style nuts.

if you have stock wheels then no but if you areusing aftermarket wheels those will hold fine. I have some similar to those on my FN01RC and they hold fine

Apart from the various styles of nuts you can get (mainly flat or tapered for wheel nuts) there are different threads and so on. Obviously, you will need ones that fit your car and your wheels. My Volks use tapered nuts where the face mating with the wheel is a cone shape. The stockers have a straight spigot type thing in the centre and the face with which it mates with the wheel is flat.

The very scary thing is that I can make you a set of aluminium or steel lugnuts in a about 2 hours or less. They'll screw on to the hub fine and they'll look 99.9% like the proper ones but these will not be heat treated nor will they be made from a material with sufficient strength. All in all, once you tighten them up over time + heat they will probably fail one way or another. I would not buy lug nuts from eBay, no matter how desparate I am.
