He found the code under the hood, up by the center connection for the strut brace. IIRC it was like 93W or something like that.
Not to be off-topic, but he and I were well aware of this and if it weren't raining to hard that day, we'd have gone out to look at it.

My insurance guy could not find the VINs in the database either, so he asked me what the car was worth just in case.

This is all funny now, but what if something happens???? Unless the car is listed as a $30K Lancer OZ, if the car gets totalled, you're only going to get book value for an OZ, right???? I mean, its all fine and dandy now, but who knows. Say you get run off the road, or whatever, and crash the hell out of the car. Its totalled for sure. They look in the system, and your insured for a Lancer OZ. Now, maybe they have it listed differently because of the price, but couldn't this get bad in the end??? It is funny how they have no idea, but you might want to check on it just to be sure. You never know when something can happen.

He's right, if they can't find the VIN they are supposed to insure the vehicle for whatever it is worth, otherwise you get paid on whatever vehicle they are insuring. I would call your insurance company and get that fixed. I insured mine as a 30k vehicle and it still went down 360/year from the ITR.

Then just get gap insurance to cover the difference between loan and book value.

I went through Shelter Insurance. Told them I have the same car as my sister (OZ rally) and gave them the VIN to my Evo. Couple days later the bill showed up in the mail and I'm covered as a OZ rally. My rate is cheaper them my sister's LOL and cheaper then my girlfriend's 96 Infiniti I30t. I aint complaining.
I also bought the GAP insurance so I'm not worried.

Exactly, that's why I was asked the MSRP and also the hp before the AAA agent gave me a quote. So in this case, MSRP (or close to MSRP) will give back to me...

I purchased the GAP insurance, but it only covers a certain percentage of the difference. If you are insured as a $15k car and try to cash in on $30k, you might encounter some difficulties.

I faxed my agent my invoice so they will need to reimburse me based upon paid price in the unlikely event something unfortunate were to occur. As far as my VIN, it was not in the DB either, but somebody here posted the symbol for the car. When I asked my agent, she said it was the same symbol for the 2000 Eclipse GT I had traded in.

Right. Exactly the same. Sounds good t'me

Once I get the first bill, I'll know better though...

So what do You guys think? Our rates are only temporary and will they change or stay the same? This e-mail I got from my insurance agent (that was 2 days ago):".....We have experienced some difficulty with our system recognizing the vehicle identification number and description of you vehicle. I have been asked to contact you to ask if you might have the vehicle window sticker available from the purchase of the vehicle.
Accessing the information from the actual sticker would aide us in adding the vehicle to your renewal policy.
Coverage for the vehicle is in place, however, we need to address the technical aspect of adding it to your policy. "

Just don't know what to think.I don't wanna find out within 2 or 3 months from today that I have to pay extra 500 or 600 a year( at least) as a premium adjustment

When I went to get the quote on insurance for an EVO, the AAA agent had the EVO listed in the system, and checked it again to make sure it wasn't just an OZ rally edition. my insurance would go up 400 a year when I get the EVO (within a month or two i hope), which isn't too bad. What's funny. after getting the quote, I looked at the paperwork that came for all my family cars, and guess what? lol..they had taken out the car I have (Lancer ES, '02), and it said: '04 MITSU LAN EVO. I was cracking up, it must be a sign.

Who is responsible for inputing the VIN # into the database? It's it Mitsubishi, or the dealers, or the insurance company, or the DMV

And I hope you don't have to make a claim...

You are responsible for making sure your vehicle is properly insured, not the insurance company. If your vehicle is not in their database, they will assess your premium based on the value of the car. You need to point out to them that your car is NOT an OZ rally edition.
