Just seafoam'ed my IX ........ wow

So I tried doing a search on here and couldnt find too much info about using seafoam on an evo. For those of you that dont know what seafoam is http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUp.htm

I have 23k miles on my IX of really hard driving. Mods are in sig. I did this after warming up the car with some spirited driving. I disconnected the brake booster line from the brake booster and fed it up through the factory strut tower bar. I then let the line "sip" about 1/3 of the 16 oz can of seafoam. I put the remaining seafoam into the crank case and gas tank; 1/3 can for each.

After leting this sit for about 5 minutes I started the car back up and proceeded to hold the revs at about 4k for about 15 seconds. Then redlineing and letting it drop back down. This produced MASSIVE clouds of black/grey smoke at first, and then white smoke afterwards. There was litterally a cloud floating around the neighborhood for like 10 minutes.

Afterwards, idle feels more steady, it feels like it starts up "easier", and it actually sounds all around healthier. So seafoam gets a from me!

I never trust any of that stuff. To me it seems you are either diluting your oil or sludging up your fuel system with products like that. I see it contains Naptha, that is basically a solvent, not the first thing I would like to add to my engine oil.

Glad it seemed to work for you.

BTW, free revving your engine to redline isn't the best thing for it.

Seafoam owns. I did it on my old Celica All-Trac, everything just ran better and got slightly better gas mileage. You should read the MR2 boards and their seafoam testimonials. Not too sure if it helps on such a new car though.

both of the 4g63t's ive tore down didnt have ANY sludge in the they wer the cleanest engines ive ever seen. I think the way they are built and the fuel inj and consistent engine temps keeps them clean, or maybe syn oils are getting better.

i tore apart my 90 talon motor with 130k on it and it was very very clean...suprisingly.

if you get one of those magnetic oil pan boilts it helps alot.

i would think that it wouldnt help so much on a motor with <30k miles but hey give it a shot

It looked like that AFTER a giant cloud of black/grey smoke. And yes I changed the oil, the plugs were still kosher.

Yea me and my friends have used it on our hondas in the past definately makes the run 100% better afterwards cleans all the carbon deposits out. This is the first Ive heard of using it on an EVO though.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
I have used something similar to this on my cars - it looks like an IV bag, just cant think of the name of it right now. But it cleans the injectors, and any sludge or carbon that may be present. I do it every spring - part of the spring setup.

I notice better idle, mpg, and the car feels smoother through the RPM band on every car.

Its called Run Rite....they claim like a 20-30% increase in gas mileage on the bottle.
