What me off the most is that the Evo's 271hp is hangin' with (and in some instances) beating a near 400hp car. Who gives a crap about the money issue? Anyone who can afford either car can easily afford to modify it. BUT...lets even out the horsepower numbers with both cars having 390 and there is no way a Cobra will stand a chance against the little pocket rocket. Hell, I'd load my Evo up with the wife and kids and leave Johnny hotshot Ponyboy sitting at the stoplight trying to explain how his super classy, super styled, super sportscar Cobra just got spanked by a foot-tall spoilered, 4-cylinder, 4-door sedan.

I must rant against the SVT boys simply because back in '96 I bought a brand new supercharged Saleen and thought I was king **** on the block only to get spanked and even on NUMEROUS occasions Found-On-Road-Dead due to belts and tensioner pulleys getting fried because it couldn't take the strain of a 2500rpm clutch drop. The modular Ford motor sucks, especially after Steve Saleen got his greedy little hands on it.

And just like Coolguy said...I've yet to see a Cobra with someone under 35 driving it. These numerous meetings that the SVT guys are having with Evos, Z06s, Vipers, and any other supercar they meet and defeat are all in their head or on their Playstaion 2s.

Talking durability...let's see which car is still together (from the time it was originally assembled) with 140,000 miles on it. The Evo will STILL be getting good timeslips while the Fords will either be on their second block or rotting away in the junkyard.

Don't even get me started as to what would happen if they both met on some twisted backroads....

with a few mods including switching the back tires to Nitto Drag Radials, the Cobra will spank the Evo even in a quick 1/8 mile drag race....but that is not "stock vs stock".

I still have not seen another Evo anywhere so I doubt too many Cobra guys have raced evo's.....like someone said, maybe they are racing OZ lancer's.

I have raced only one cobra... He did the usual, smoke the tires as I drifted away into the night thing... Never saw him again...

But like it's been said already, you get this little 2.0 4cyl, up to the same hp as the cobra, and the mighty cobra wouldn't have a prayer.. V8-Supercharged against a turbo 4cyl, and it still can barely top it... Yeah, that's wonderful ford technology I tell ya...

I just think that everybody is against the EVO cause it's actually so damn popular!! So all the STI guys, and V8 guys, are envious!! That's why they bash it as much as they can... Gimme my mods to bring the true rated horsepower outa my EVO, then we can play...

The Evo is getting bad-mouthed from a bunch of different sides which is strange to me. The car is an overachiever IMO. It goes beyond what anyone would have thought it could do. My friend who has a 350Z told another one of my friends that he thinks his old "stock" WRX is faster. The bad part was that when he last rode in it was before I was done breaking it in. I also didn't really get on it. That's ok, he's still my friend and as soon as our schedules line up right I intend to punk him in his 350 (which he knows is faster than his WRX was).

btw...don't forget the Neon SRT-4 guys!

I think any and all who at our cars are just mad because they are being taken by a 4 cy car. They also are pissed off because they pay as much on gas in a year as we do on mods in a year

Seems like we're all doing the same rants as everyone else.. However someone pointed something out that makes sense.. The EVO's introduction is one of those weird "In The know" situations.. The car came out of nowhere, and suddenly everyone is talking about it, but very few have seen or come up against it. Many can't even tell you what it looks like... Hey, how many of us could identify a Mitsu Lancer easily on the street before we got our Evo's (If we didn't own lancers before??) I can honestly say I never recalled seeing one prior. These poor Lancer OZ Rally guys are getting the wrath.

I can say that I live in an area where alot of these different cars congregate, so I do come up against cobras, lightnings, many hondas, acuras, musclecars, etc.. Truthfully I haven't won every race I've ran, but I've won most, which is really more than I ever expected, I just don't take a loss personal, I never did, It just motivates me to improve my driving style, or my car..

I had a really frustrating experience with a punk child in his mommy's pathfinder, he starts talking crap at me, saying he wants to race, whips out a wad of cash, and I said, nope.. He was persistent so I said "Stop wasting my friggin time", now he gets insulted and gives the thumbs down, and said "The evo is the slowest friggin car I've ever seen", my girlfriend and I looked at eachother, and began laughing at him hysterically because of how irate he was. Personally I'd go for any run with money.. but the bad attitude turned me off, I don't get the stick swinging, it just makes people look more stupid when they lose, because people like that generally do lose. Ok, my rant is done.. I think the moral of the story is that losing is not anything to be embarrased about, there are plenty of faster cars out there, take it as a learning experience.. and **NEVER** try to make excuses for why you lost, you just end up looking like a bozo.. either race again and beat them (or lose), or go home and plan a way to go faster.

Let me add that when I run, I only run fast enough to stay a 1/2 car length ahead of anything I'm up against.. It does tend to give some of these kids an idea that their car is alot quicker than they think..

Your a nice guy MalibuJack, which surprises me for a New Yawker! I would have probably taken his money! I do agree with you though, people need to seperate their confidence from their car being the fastest.

We talking straight line speed? If so, then you're wrong. The Cobra will pull from the Evo and keep on pulling. Most 03s dyno close to 370 at the wheels and they're about 3800 lbs. Now, no matter how you look at it, that's faster than the Evo. The only problem the Cobra has is hooking up. But, a good driver can get a 1.9 60' on stock rubber, and that's enough to lay the smack down on an Evo and run a low 12 in the 1/4.

BUT...lets even out the horsepower numbers with both cars having 390 and there is no way a Cobra will stand a chance against the little pocket rocket.
The Evo doesn't have 390 though. The Cobra does. The only disadvantages the Cobra has is weight and 2wd. A simple pulley swap on the Cobra puts them in the 11s, how much is it going to cost to get the Lancer there? You're using ricer math man - it doesn't matter what would happen if they both had the same HP because they don't.

Riiiight... If anyone wants to put this argument to test then I have plenty of 03s that I can set you up a race with. Just let me know. I can have it videod and have the results posted here.

You must rant against SVT because you bought a Saleen? Are you really that dense? Saleen != SVT. Everybody knows that the S281s are slow and a total waste of money. How can you blame Ford, or SVT, for Steve Saleen's mistakes? I had a spuercharged GT (99) that put 360 to the ground and had over 100 passes on the track on it. Car ran a best of 11.9 on DRs with 4500 RPM clutch drops and I had to replace the belt once, and the clutch twice. I wouldn't exactly say that is excessive.

And just like Coolguy said...I've yet to see a Cobra with someone under 35 driving it. These numerous meetings that the SVT guys are having with Evos, Z06s, Vipers, and any other supercar they meet and defeat are all in their head or on their Playstaion 2s.
I'm not sure if I actually know a Cobra driver over 35. Like I said - I got plenty of Cobras from all years that would be willing to race you.

Talking durability...let's see which car is still together (from the time it was originally assembled) with 140,000 miles on it. The Evo will STILL be getting good timeslips while the Fords will either be on their second block or rotting away in the junkyard.
Yeah, you never see any Fox bodies at the track do you? I'm pretty sure those 10+ year old machines have more than their fair share of miles on them. 93 Cobras still go for up to $15K depending on ther condition, so I'd say that they hold their value pretty well. The Cobras is produced in similar numbers to the Evo, so compare apples to apples and go see how well SVT vehicles hold their value.

Don't even get me started as to what would happen if they both met on some twisted backroads....
Houston - June - StangBang. We have a track rented. Anyone's welcome to come down and show us their mad driving skills. Plenty of Mustangs will be there for you to pick on.

A simple pully swap takes you to 11s? Wonder who's using the ricer math. Nice term, though.

You mean 1/4 mi right? ... that's great

Why has no one talked about track times? I haven't been to a 1/4 mile strip in years, but I hit every road course I can. I've got a deposit on the STI .. but am starting to lean towards an Evo.

I never considered a Mustang ... they are pigs on any track .. oh sure you can jerry-rig them to get similar times, but with enough mods you can get a Mack truck to turn the same times ... anybody watch the truck racing in Germany? ... point is .. they are **** poor at anything that can't be compensated for with more displacement and supercharging. ... fun .. i guess ... ... if you have a very narrowly defined spectrum of fun.

.. so this is a stupid argument ... people that buy Mustangs buy them for reasons that have nothing to do with Evo ownership ... I know who "Mustang Man" is ... and it ain't me ... I believe that I am a bit more self assured and comfortable with my masculinity.

The biggest fear that "Mustang Man" has is that the only card he has ... acceleration ... might get trumped by this car that not only accelerates ... but does EVERYTHING well ... and significantly better than the mustang ... for less money ... and for christ's sake ... IT'S AN IMPORT .... what are we going to do?

before now he could laugh at car's like the Integra Type R ... b/c even though it is an exceptional track car ... the Mustang can kill it on the street ... so what happens when one of these imports can kill it everywhere? .... right out of the box with just 4 cylinders

hmmm ..... phallus shrinkus maximus

Do you know anything about superchargers? A smaller pulley on the blower = faster rotation = higher boost = quicker car. I laid it out in simple mathematics so that you may better understand.

No, I'm talking about the Blimp Base in Hitchcock, TX, which is a 'twisty' circuit. There will be lots of Mustangs, Camaros, Trans Ams, Corvettes, and even some imports. If I get my Evo before then then I'll be there in that, otherwise I'll probably be in a Mustang. Anyone interested in coming can PM me.
