Evo IX Cams

Anyone knows of any news on cams for the IX. I'm going to get my car tuned soon and if anyone knows of any cams for the IX that actually increase power please let me know. I really would like to change the cams before the tuning. So I would not have to take it for tuning for the second time after the cams.

20whp... that doesn't seem much of an improvement over the Evo VIII cams, which others have said generate 30-50whp!?! Is it just that the EvoIX stock cams are better/different?

What is your impression of them? And how much power did you gain.

I heard these add ridiculous amounts of power... I think there was a thread on it, not to long ago.

Eh no...try to find a customer car with those TT IX cams that made good power. Jeff above you is an example of NOT making power with those cams despite 2 full custom tunes.

Nvr2fast...30-50whp? Eh, no. 30whp? Yes, but not more than that. 20whp from IX cams would be great. You can't expect quite as much, because there are already nice gains to be had from tuning of the MIVEC, which already manipulates the cam timing.

Do you think it would be a smart thing to change the cam gears and not the cams? And is there any other gains besides the weight change with the cam gears.

Thank you.

Depends on if u are equating peak power gains or 30-50 more whp above 6000 rpm. 50 whp is still a lil optimistic above 6000 rpm. FWIW If I remember correctly peak was about 20- 25 whp with 30whp being on the high side and maybe 30ish above 6000-7700 rpm when compared to a non cammed evo in that rpm range.

I know mark made good gains but one of those autox4u cars claimed he made some really nice gains with the tt cams...I also believe he has an overlay of the before and after. Can't remember his name and the search function take too long while I'm at work but I have the link at home.

No, I don't think so, because like I said above, the MIVEC is already manipulating the cam timing, and then with tuning, you manipulate it even further. I don't know what a cam gear would do for you that isn't already being done. I also don't know what you mean by weight change...are aftermarket cam gears significantly lighter?

he could get a cam gear for the exhaust cam...which could conceivably help.
