Question Need a rear o2 sensor for a IX, suggestions?

I have basically stripped the o2 sensor when attempting a test pipe install. I need to get another rear o2 sensor to fix the CEL (or somehow get the old one off the cat, which I doubt will happen).

Does anyone know if a universal sensor will work, or will I have to shell out $300 for a new OEM one? I'm tempted to grab a universal one from Autozone, but I'm afraid it won't work.

If you have a "test pipe" the rear 02 sensor is worthless anyhow. You can get a "CEL" delete "kit" which looks like a firecracker with 3 wires coming off of it. it will remove your CEL light that is associated with the rear Cat only, and keep your other saftey parameters there for the CEL to come on when you have "other issues". I have one in my tool box I got a couple years ago, can't remember where I got it. it is CHEAP, and don't get another 02 sensor, because a new one wont read anything either, because the cat is off, and it doesn't read anything with it off. hope this helps.

Goolge and then phone oxygensensors.com or summit racing. they should be able to hook you up. People have got non oem replacement ones for the 8s.

You guys talk about the o2 simulator, but I thought that still required a valid o2 sensor to be present in order for it to work. In other words, I thought an o2 simulator by itself will not fix the problem since the ECU still knows that a real one isn't present.

Also, I've read in a few places here that the electrical o2 CEL fix doesn't work on IX's.

Wont he still need an o2 sensor hooked up for the elim to work? For my perrin one, you do. Simply leaving the o2 wires going to the missing sensor wont work IMO. The perrin one works by intercepting the signal coming from the 02 sensor and modifying it on the way to the ecu. If there is no signal at all, then it prolly wont work.

He will need to get the old o2 sensor out of the cat at some point anyway, no?

Well, not necessarily. If I can fix this problem with a generic o2 sensor and a mechanical or electrical o2 CEL fix, I should be able to leave it in the cat.

I will buy some generic 4 pin connectors from RadioShack so I can modularly swap in and out the test pipe with generic o2/fix and the cat with the real o2.

This is all required because I'm an idiot and I think the real OEM o2 sensor is now stuck since it's stripped.

I'm glad you got it figured out. Trouble is, mine is completely stuck in the cat still and the head of the bolt on the sensor is rounded-off quite a bit.

Buy an 02 Sensor Drive (with slot cut out) and a can on penetrating Oil, and Anti-seize.

1.Soak it let sit for 30 min and repeat 3-4 times.
2. Remove 02 sensor and apply Anti Seize before re-installing
3. Hand tighten and your done.

But the Site SLVRNBLK posted is the cheapest i have seen them anywhere.
